We learned that all the staff at the lodge were from the local community, and that the lodge was a joint venture with the community.   "This Eco friendly lodge was interesting. We enjoyed our stay but there were a few nearly unpleasant surprises. First of all be aware that the road in is really and truly 4x4 with lots of dips and deep sand and it is about 13 kms into the bush from the main gravel road. Secondly since they use solar ..."for just about everything lights were super dim at night and rooms have no power from which to charge phones or computers. Hot water was OK If you are quick. Power to charge things only during day at the main lodge. WiFi was available only during certain hours and only at the main lodge and the speed was slow. Tents were nice but with no power at night things became interesting including using the shower and toilet. Great staff and owner. Food average at best. Great game area for drives but nothing in the local pond while we were there. " More >

  "We stayed for 2 nights in a bush cabin (no.10) which hung over the contstantly entertaining Okavanga River. Yes, it was rustic and fairly basic but it was perfect for its location - anything glitzy would detract from the experience of being almost at one with nature. Our cabin's comforts included ho..."t water showers, a loo, mosquito nets and lighting. The "walls" consisted of rattan screens which rolled up to provide the effect of sleeping under the stars. We went out in a mokoro in the morning and on the sunset "cruise" at night and recommend both. In between we sat on our deck and watched elephant and buffalo on the opposite bank and listened to the honking of the hippos. Very soporific. If camping, the facilities are basic, quirky but superbly sited. Fellow travellers recommended the bath! However, if you can afford a splurge we recommend abandoning your tent - you won't regret it.
