B&Bs feel so much more comfortable, but many B&Bs that miss the mark on getting a five-star miss for a couple of reasons that boil down to one thing: the operator seems to treat it as a side project rather than really investing their time and energy into it. So at some B&Bs the furnishings seem like the "leftovers" or are of poor quality, or you feel a bit as though you are imposing by being there, or the arrival times and breakfast times are too inflexible, etc. THIS place is top-notch.   "Ka'awa Loa Plantation is very much in the upper echelons of the B&B experience, and deserves a full 5* rating. The house is beautiful, immaculately kept (as are the gardens), and tastefully decorated. The view from the lanai is incomparable, down through lush tropical gardens to the bay beyond, and ..."relaxation is the name of the game at any time of day, from the delicious breakfasts prepared by Michael, through to the outdoor showers, the hot tub with ocean views, and general lounging on the lanai itself. Our ocean view room was very comfortable, and had a private WC, but a shared bathroom (which we didn't mind at all). Michael and Greg are extremely considerate hosts. Michael was up every morning cooking breakfast from 06.30 and would spend time chatting and offering suggestions for places to go, things to do, and restaurants to eat at, and on a couple of afternoons, we returned to find brownies and pineapple upside down cake awaiting us - what a treat! Location was great to the best restaurants on the Island, the best snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay and it was so Hawaii we will be returning.. Even if they couldn't adopt us...The..." knowledge of what to do and see with trips planed out saved us so much time in which we could enjoy the Island without all the homework or getting lost. The hosts keep such a beautiful home and we respect the fact there are a few considerate request. It is so green and beautiful on the sunny side but evenings occasionally rain which was nice because it feels tropical.... They had everything we needed for the beach, little notes also on what not to miss even when we went to the other side...Headed to Kauai from there and they gave us all the tips on what not to miss..
