  "I stayed in Nome in the Nugget Inn 40 years ago when it was the only hotel in town. When I was asked to teach a class to Alaskan pastors in Nome for 5 days last fall, I was directed to the Aurora. The possiblity of comfort won out over nostalgia, and I'm glad I stayed in the newer hotel. I asked for..." an upstairs room since I usually find those quieter. I was worried when I found my room was just down from the top of the stairs and over the front desk and employee area. Then there was some mild rowdiness in the parking lot in the early evening. But I found things quieted down nicely by 10 p.m. and I could sleep. The room was spacious, with a kitchenette and I was able to get some groceries and do breakfast in the room rather than trek around in the rain and wind. I didn't find the staff particularly helpful, but they were polite enough and checked me in and out with no delay. For those who find Nome a bit bleak, you should have seen it 40 years ago! " More >
