You are paying more than double what you would pay on the mainland, because the limited visitor numbers allows them to charge much more. Beijupira is a wonderful small pousada. It is simple but pe..."rfectly adequate, and really quite charming. After a problem with our booking made by Decolar, we were allocated one of the basic rooms. It was a fair size with air conditioning, a shower with plenty of hot water, comfortable double bed, fridge and TV (not that you need it). The only thing lacking was enough space to hang our clothes, but in fairness, most people only stay on the island for a few days. The staff at Beijupira were wonderful: super friendly and helpful.   "My husband and I stayed here for 5 days/6 nights for our honeymoon. As we passed other places dropping off others from the airport, I was a little hesitant on where we would be staying based on the 'curb appeal' of other pousadas. When we pulled up the SUPER BUMPY road (don't expect pavement practic..."ally anywhere) we were greeted by the owner and were very pleased. We didn't pay the extra for the ocean view, but the cottage is so small (6-7 rooms) that it was an easy 30 second walk around to view it. Our room has our own porch with a hammock, a queen sized bed, a TV with a few channels and a decent sized bathroom. As others have said, don't expect a 5 star hotel from you $300 USD a night, but I was pleased with what we got. The one downside was that my husband and I speak very little Portuguese and the owners did the same with English.
