Although we have stayed in Les Contamines before (self catering for two weeks in the summer) and explored most of the village and the gorge, we never came across La Chemenaz, as it is not in the main village centre, but is ideal..."y located for those ski-ing as just a short walk to the lifts. The restaurant was large, with an open fire place as the centre piece, so was lovely and warm. We were on half board and the food was delicious although there was no choice for half boarders. However the fixed menu was dsplayed the night before and if you let reception know before mid-day you could cancel the half board meal. We did this one night, so as to sample the food from the main menu. The hotel staff were very helpful, and there was always someone on hand for help/advice if needed. Good english was spoken by most. Very reasonably priced in comparison to the big name ski areas. It was spotless on arrival and the owner had given us good ins..."tructions on everything from getting the electricity and water working to the best place to hire equipment. Ski hire and wifi pub are less than a minute away. Gondola to ski area is maybe 3 minutes in ski boots. Owner was very easy to deal with, very flexible and helpful. Maybe not relevant to the apartment review, but the Les Contamines ski area is excellent. Everyone will find a skiing challenge, something the TO's seem to have missed, so you can get a lift to a bunny slope or a steep black mogul run without having to queue for more that a few seconds.
