Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sadly this restaurant is no longer trading as the owners have retired some time ago and it is a long time now that I went, which was usually every week. This was a Thai restaurant, the food being cooked by one of the owners who...came from Thailand. The food was excellent and everyone very nice indeed.More

A delightful Thai restaurant The setting and service were really pleasant. The Thai food was wonderful - excellent in both the quality of the cooking and presentation of the dish. We had eaten good quality Thai food before but it was no comparison to this....It is a must!More

On a miserable afternoon we popped into the Bake House for a delicious hot cup of coffee, one latte and one cappucino,a rich special taste for both. We indulged in a warm thick treacle tart with cream and my wife had the best rich crispy thick...cream roulard ever. Mine host was charming and judging by the many customers this is great place to escape from. We are planning to go back soon and try more of the sweet delights- Thank youMore

This was a good place for a light leisurely lunch (the Thai curry was excellent) and a catch up with an old friend over some business and other matters

My favourite place to eat in this wonderful town. The welcome is always warm and friendly and the home made Thai cuisine is to die for. Always spotlessly clean and it’s also perfect for morning coffee and cake. If you’re in Castle Cary, don’t miss...you chance to visit.More

Thai food at it’s best, piping hot plate of flavoursome, textured and (my choice) mildly spicy sweet and sour pad Thai. I was lucky enough to get a table in the sunny bijou courtyard where I was surrounded by huge ancient rhododendrons in full bloom....Indoors was busy too as Tuesday is Castle Cary’s market day. Plenty of choice on the menu and not all Thai. You have to visit.More

Family get together at this quaint establishment. Moo Makrame, a Thai favourite, was popular with 2 of us. I had the hot one which was just right, the medium one also great. Friendly service and a nice home made dessert to follow.

Love it, food amazing and a good choice on the menu for a lunch. Very rarely do you get a Thai restaurant with amazing “English” puddings, magical. You definitely should make a detour

Visited today for lunch, there was plenty of choice on the menu, service was swift although very busy. Very clean and interesting interior with some local art work for sale. Food was delicious, expertly presented by professional caring staff. Finished off with a really superb...coffee. What a little gem for Castle Carey.More

The fact that places like The Bakehouse still exist in England is extremely reassuring, when so much of England these days has changed for the worse. Castle Cary itself is a very pleasant place, and The Bakehouse is one of many small businesses in this...charming market town. The Bakehouse is run by a middle-aged Englishman and his Thai wife, in a very friendly and welcoming manner. The premises are immaculately clean, well-furnished and tastefully-decorated. I like to judge a restaurant or cafe by the state of its toilet(s) - those here do not disappoint and are maintained in excellent condition. I won’t dwell on the food and drink offerings available; suffice it to say everything myself and my colleagues have had during our last three visits has been fine. The Bakehouse appears to be quite popular with locals, understandably so. It is worthy of your custom, you will not be disappointed.More

What a lovely place! We popped in for a coffee with friends, ended up staying for over an hour. The staff were really lovely and very friendly. They were more than happy to let our labradoodle sit in the courtyard with us, and in fact...kept bringing him treats! The cake selection was fab, and delicious! We hope to return soon.More

These days I always have a look at Tripadvisor before dining out and there aren't many places with such good reviews that we felt we had to try The Old Bakehouse! We weren't disappointed. From the moment we stepped inside the place felt "right" and...we were immediately welcomed. Chose to sit in the courtyard outside as it was a sunny day. Lovely place to enjoy a cold drink before our meals arrived. We chose the duck stir fry and Khaw Pad crab and prawn meals. Both were delicious and we left clean plates! Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for food in 'CaryMore

Visited to have some lunch. Chose the slow cooked beef, came beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Followed it with bakewell tart which they warmed for me as I prefer it that way, again it was delicious. Apparently nearly all the puddings (some 12 on display!)...are home made and the taste proves it. Had a coffee and that was very reasonably priced. The place itself has character and the staff were friendly. There is a lovely courtyard at the rear that you can sit in for coffee and/or food but I chose to stay indoors and read a national newspaper that was provided as well. Thoroughly recommend.More

We were on a cycling holiday, didn't know the area and went in by accident looking for bread. This was a very happy mistake as once inside we realised that this is the home of exceptional cake, and a lovely thai restaurant, and both elements...it carries off beautifully. We opted for cake, some of the best we have ever tasted (I had a passion fruit sponge). It wasn't fussy or over-complicated and tasted every bit as good as it looked with a just-out-of-the-oven freshness. We ate in the oasis of a patio at the back full of flowers and a clambering grape vine.More

I telephoned to book a table 10 minutes before we arrived! and we were given a very warm welcome from Chris the owner who showed us to a table in the courtyard. To sit under a grapevine and amongst pots of plants and flowers was...delightful. Two of us ordered the Sticky Duck and the third ordered the Duck Pad Thai. Absolutely delicious, nicely presented and so fresh tasting. We had wine by the glass, good choice of wine. One ordered the almond and apricot sponge dessert which we all tried and was heavenly. We finished with coffee and tea.The waitress was very nice and smiley and Chris who has a great sense of humour was attentive professional and made us feel special. I'm sure he does this to all his patrons. This restaurant ticks all the boxes and I can't wait to go back. Well done Chris and your team you made my day!More
