Awful . Avoid. For 40 years my family and extended friends network always went to the Navvy. Not one of them goes there now. The service is terrible, the manager is not interested and the cleaning is non existent. Well done Oakham inns.

Met a friend for a light lunch here. The staff were helpful and the food well prepared with lovely crispy chips. A lovely venue with lots of carparking. Recomended
Dined at The Navigation several times over the last 10 years but certainly won't be doing so again. What has happened ??? The warm welcome has disappeared and the waiting staff seemed like they'd rather be elsewhere. Miserable faces. Totally disinterested in providing any kind...of friendly customer experience at all. I could almost hear our waitress roll her eyes when I requested extra gravy for my Sunday roast. The ONLY reason I have given a rating of 2 out of 5 is that the pub is dog-friendly.More
Very nice old pub with very good pub grub but the staff need some training. We where shown to our table and given menus and …….. I had to get attention from the waitress to get us a drink she was too busy chatting to...some bloke slouched at the bar who obviously was more important ? Eventually another waitress came over who was friendly and we ordered our drinks and also our food at the same time. The drinks where soon delivered and we waited awhile for our food. The food was hot plentiful and very tasty if anything more sauce was needed with my hunters chicken and the chicken pie was a little dry but the fish and chips was delicious. We weren’t offered any sauces we had to ask for more drinks not offered any desserts so I went to the bar and asked to pay the bill was given the wrong bill which was from another table this showed how in interested the waitress was in doing her job properly !! We won’t return due to poor serviceMore
Had a lovely freshly cooked roast sunday lunch today with my wife. Food was delicious, hot and served by friendly staff. I could not fault it and we will go again.
Sunday, my son and I had the experience of late Sunday lunch at the Navigation Inn. Admittedly we were late and last-minute decision as the children were going out. There was no welcome, staff were eating their Sunday lunch behind the bar one member already...on her sweet with custard on her tee shirt this was a very appealing look. They had run out of most things on the Sunday lunch menu, starters and main course as their delivery had not arrived that morning. So, we went straight for main course. As there was only one vegetarian option on the menu and I did not want pastry I asked just vegetables as a roast but no potato. My son ended up having beefburger and chips and we ordered a takeaway for his child. I had ordered a glass of wine which I had to ask for three times as it had been forgotten and it took over 20 minutes to arrive (there was by this time no one in the restaurant). Meals arrived in about 30 minutes after ordering. Burger and chips looked ok but not Sunday lunch and my veg roast consisted of a portion of red cabbage which was on the menu as a side dish costing about £5 some frozen broccolis mush a splash of mash potato and gravy (I had already asked not to have potato) however, I am sure this is all they had. The staff were still eating and now at the same starting to clean the restaurant this gave a very uncomfortable feel like they wanted us out of there as they were closing. Only that the pub and restaurant does not close at that time, the pub is open until 11pm and restaurant bookings are taken for last orders at 7.30pm. We could hear the kitchen staff scrubbing down in the kitchen all the time we were waiting for the meal and during the meal again uncomfortable feel. We asked for the bill which arrived promptly my son offered his card and the transaction of £96.69 was taken. I looked at the bill whilst he was paying and found we had been charges for VE pot pie roast £15.50, I queried this with the waitress who confirmed the side of red cabbage and the broccoli vegetables did not have a number on the till hence, that was the amount to be paid. A further member of staff came over and asked the problem she agreed that the meal and the charge should not have been that amount but as the transaction had gone through there was nothing that could be done. The customer service was appalling all the way through the meal, an impromptu Sunday lunch turned out to be an experience that we would not want to relive. It is such a shame that the pub and restaurant does not have the same ambience and quality of food that it once did. Not a place to rush back to a very poor experience. We probably should have walked out at the start of the experience but as we were under time constraints and we stayed and experienced how not to do Sunday lunch. Just a simple apology saying we are sorry for a poor experience would have stopped writing this review.More
Awful food and service would not recommend Chips were hard and burnt was not given any cutlery to eat with
Really disappointed with the food today. Had a ham hock cheddar toastie, that cost £9.95 and was tasteless, no salad on the plate, paid extra £3.50 for fries! £26.00 for house white!!! Friendly service but extortionate prices. Not a place I will be visiting again!
Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food and service I was very disappointed on arrival to find the festive menu wasn’t on offer albeit it shows as being available from the 21st of November.
The setting is lovely in the summer. No fire lit even in December. Staff not really interested in service or smiles sadly. It was reasonably clean, as were the toilets, the bLT sandwich was on standard cheap white bread, 2 pieces of bacon, a side...salad of soggy rocket leaves, limp tomatoes. Really quite disappointing when it is £11 for a sandwich. It is dog friendly which was a win and the staff were lovely to the dogs. Menu limited but I wouldn’t mind that if the food was decent. It wouldn’t take much to improve this pub, a warm fire, friendly staff smiles and more attention to the food quality and presentation.More
Arrived, first visit the toilets ya can normally sus out the pub by the bogs Dirty, smelly toilet roll in shordage Walked into the bar, no fire lit used To be such a cozy pub Dirty floor looks like the cleaners jacked, tables dirty and...not cleared up. Sticky bar top and tables not been cleaned correctly One person in bar, two in snug Outside tables dirty Once a great pub Destroyed by a plc company who have not got a clue on how to run a community pub If I was a share holder I would be asking questions or removing me wedge Just over 12 month since the pub changed hands, Get a grip A reply would be greatMore
We visited for lunch. The menu was fine. They were very quiet but service generally was not very attentive. They failed to deliver the desserts ordered but when this was raised with them they neither explained nor apologised. We suspect they simply forgot. Food was...generally good but the risotto greasy rather than creamy. The recipe maybe needs reconsidering We're not likely to returnMore
Passing here in my motor home and popped in for a pint and bite Absolutely stunning spot by the. Snake for lunch or dinner. Great food Must be really popular in better weather It was quiet so they let me stop in a corner of...the car park over night so I had another pint🤣🤣🤣More
Picked this pub as an overnight stop in our campervan on our way to the NEC for the motorhome show. It had cropped up on a Facebook group as 'welcoming to motorhomes/campervan's'. It was a miserable night, storm Babet was doing her best to keep...everyone tucked up at home. So we virtually had the pub/restaurant to ourselves. Food was ok, but nothing to get excited about, and seemed a bit expensive for the portion size. Also my first choice from the menu 'risotto' had just run out. Like, whatever! However the staff were friendly and accommodating to my husbands peculiarity of choosing a starter instead of pudding, to end his meal. If we head back that way in the summer, we will give it another go and hopefully get to see the garden and canal.More
We booked a table at this pub for Sunday lunch as it had a lovely canal side garden. It was fairly busy when we arrived, but not too busy. After ordering drinks and food, we then waited for around 45 minutes for our starter to...arrive. I noticed that a large group that came in after us, along with another couple of tables had already been served, so inquired at the bar as to how much longer our food would be. Walking back to our table, the starter and our main meals arrived at the same time. When I mentioned that I was not happy that everything had come at once and that I did not want to pay for the starter I was offered a discount by the management. As we had already paid for the food, this was a worthless gesture. The food was pretty good, but the meal was spoiled by a poor management decision. The starter in question was a small plate of bread and olive oil and wouldn't have cost much to produce. However, I feel bad customer service has cost the pub a return visit!More
