Where do we start? On arrival there was no-one in reception, when we were shown to our table we immediately had bread thrust in front of us, and within moments we were asked what we would like from the menu. My husband wasn't ready to order, so they came back (30 seconds later). My husband had gurnard which was very... More

Merry Christmas and thank you for your kind and constructive comments. It's good to know that after 25 years in the industry I still know nothing. Alternatively, it can mean coating a mould with caramel, flavouring a pudding or similar preparation with... More

We held our clubs Christmas Dinner Party for 38 guests at the Laughing Monk and what a superb venue it is. The choice of Menu and the Service at this establishment were excellent with all the guests seated at 5 tables being served with their different choices without any delays so everyone at each table could eat together. Having eaten... More

My wife, friends and I dined here twice during our short stay at nearby Strete Barton House. Such was the standard of the food that we enjoyed at our first visit that we just had to come back again. Each time, we made use of the 5-12-5 'early bird' dining offer, but would have happily paid the full price had... More

Visited with husband and 3 year old son whilst on holiday in the area. The setting is picturesque, the service polite and friendly, the food delicious. There was not a child menu but we were told that any of the choices on the menu could be produced in small portions. Our son enjoyed the most beautiful fresh piece of whiting,... More

We visited the restaurant whilst staying at Strete Barton Guest House for our 25th wedding anniversary. The Laughing Monk had been very highly recommended so we had high expectations after eating at the Kings Arms the previous evening and being very impressed with the food there. It was a quiet midweek evening but there were 2 or 3 other tables... More
