We were reffered to Raices which means roots, by a chef friend in PR. After doing our sightseeing in Old San Juan we came by to have an early dinner on a Friday evening. The place was full of locals as well as some tourists. We didn't have a reservation but the staff was helpful to get us a table.... more
We were walking down the street in Old San Juan looking for a restaurant to eat dinner at. There were plenty of restaurants in a row that were empty except for Raices, which was packed with people inside and out. So we decided to go there. We tried the mofongo based on the recommendation of two diners sitting at a... more
One of the Local Cab Drivers in Puerto Rico suggested that we go to this restaurant. I would say that it was touristy if I didn't know any better too. This place is setting an ambiance of traditional "Jibaro" culture in Puerto Rico. The Mofongo Was soft ; as well as, the Churrasco inside was delicious and tender. I am... more
My friends in NY informed me of this wonderful restaurant. I heard about the wonderful foods and the lovely decor so I had to try it out. I was on vacation with my mom - we were absolutely delighted when we arrived at the restaurant (we went to the one in Caguas). The atmosphere was pleasant, the waiters/waitresses were "awesome"... more
We ate at Raices as a recommendation from the local Puerto Ricans. We also saw it on Anthony Bourdain and decided to try the Mofungo. The mashed bananas were not... more
Every time we visit Old San Juan it is a must that we go and eat at Raices... Their food is the best and their hospitality is wonderful. I recommend Raices to everyone who wants to taste Puerto Rican Cuisine and see a traditional Puerto Rico as well. more
Was not thrilled with the food. Meat had a "raw" taste and the starches, such as the plantains, had little to no flavor. Did not find this representative of the subtle flavors found in local cuisine of small towns like Caguas and Cayey. Would not go here again. more
While visiting San Juan we went to "Raices", as few friends recommended us the restaurant. The service was magnificient. I love how the waitress wears the typical Puertorican outfits. Our server was a friendly and courteous gentleman from Orocovis. The ladies were very friendly and courteous, as well. The food was more than delicious. I ate mofongo with shrimps and... more
On an otherwise slow Thursday evening in Old San Juan, Raices was hopping so we decided to follow the crowd. Rather than wait for a table we were able to sit at the bar which turned out to be a lucky break. Roxy treated us like old friends and steered us in the right direction for dinner choices. The churrasco... more
