We ate at La Tapa for our final dinner on the island because we had heard raves about the food. The hostess happily accommodated us without a reservation, which was a positive. Unfortunately, for me, that's about where the positives ended. The service was really lacking when you consider the excessive prices. I live in NJ/NY and am used to... more

We had 2 great dinners at La Tapa in mid-July. We sat outside both times which was a little cooler and we enjoyed the people-watching ( Woody's is next door ). We had the bread with 3 sauces, an escargot app., langostinos, and shared a goat cheese salad. We both had the rib-eye which was great and rather large so... more

I decided to eat here since it is often recommended as one of the best places on St. John. To me, it was just OK. I think the more upscale restaurants on Grand Cayman (where I went last year) were far superior. I had the lamb shank. The meat was good but the sides that went with it weren't too... more

Our first trip to St John and our first experience with La Tapa. Based off of many reviews we decided to go here for our last night on the island. We arrived 30 minutes prior to our reservation but were seated promptly. Once we decided on our entrees it was time to choose a wine. As I'm not as well... more

Saint John is fairly expensive in terms of dining, so we went to La Tapa knowing the meal would be a bit heftier than what we usually spend for dinner (hey, we frequent inexpensive and moderate restaurants back home so we have money to travel!). We visited La Tapa with buddies we met at our B&B, the excellent Garden by... more

We are on our 5th tripto St. John but this was the first time at La Tapa. What a wonderful experience. I've always questioned the location being right on a busy corner with a lot of car dust and fumes but was I wrong. We ate inside to avoid the car fumes so you really weren't aware of the outside.... more

We just returned from a week long stay in St John, and of the ten restaurants we ate at, this was by far our favorite. The service was excellent, and the food wonderful. Everything in St John is expensive so be prepared for that. The menu at La Tapa changes daily, and they had by far had the best wine... more

My wife and I just returned from our 4th trip to St John and of course had to return for a meal at La Tapa. We have always had great experiences here and this time was no different. The restaurant is located streetside and cars do come by in a steady stream but we seem to enjoy the island atmosphere... more

We ate here twice, First night food was good and service ok. the Second Night food was OK and service was better. The food is more prepared than most of the other restraunts in twon. The location right on the street is not favorable for this type of restraunt, i also felt the retraunt was not friendly as other restraunts. more

We dined at La Tapa on two occasions last week. The food was outstanding both times. Most of us had Mahi-Mahi on the first visit, which was encrusted with potatoes and it was the best piece of fish I've had in a long, long time. Some of us had "Pasta Tommy" as well. Very good and very garlicky (sp?)! Ann... more
