Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gosh that was an awful experience, we booked months in advance and ended up in this noisy conservatory where we could not even hear the people at our own table and they were 6 inches away. The food was so ordinary and unpleasant, it reminded...me of the Little Chef menus of days gone by. How they have ever stayed open for so long is an enigma to me?More

Booked Sunday lunch for 10 as part of a birthday celebration. Service was excellent and everyone in the party commented on the quality of the food. Several said it was the best meal they had had for years. Well done!

We booked in advance for lunch on a Saturday and arrived a little earlier than we expected. Despite the Inn being busy we were immediately welcomed warmly and seating to our table. We couldn't have felt more welcomed. Our table was near the Inglenook fireplace...so surrounded by character. Drinks and food all fantastic and simply faultless. Staff were friendly and helpful. An extremely pleasant and relaxed lunch and we won't be long in returning. Very well done to all at The Old Thatched Inn for such a comprehensively excellent experience.More

I have eaten at this pub for many years. This is the first time I felt I needed to comment. I had the Prawn cocktail as a main (£17.00!!) & I found a peice of plastic in my mouth after 3 mouthfuls. I showed this...to the manager, who said”yes, it’s from the lid of the cocktail mix they use”. I explained it was quite a large piece & could have cut my mouth. No apologies, no concern. He took the piece of plastic from me & disappeared into the kitchen. I didn’t see him again. He didn’t come back to our table to offer an apology, or offer a refund or any kind of explanation, The pub wasn’t even particularly busy. We paid in full for our meal, with no regard to the fact that a piece of plastic had ended up on my plate! I wouldn’t expect a full refund, just an apology and perhaps a free glass of wine. My friend’s fish (haddock) was watery and the batter was soggy & flavourless. All in all, a really dissatisfying and disappointing visit. My friend and I come here every year for our Christmas meal - we will not be returning,More

This was a return visit to what is a top-end, first class Gastro-Pub which must be one of the leaders in the surrounding Counties for hospitality, food quality. service and culinary balance. For sure like other eating places the Pandemic was a tough survival task...but they have more than survived. The staff have the balance perfect between attentive service, menu advice and a unhurried pleasant atmosphere. The food has variety and taste i.e. Welsh Rarebit with sliced tomatoes immersed in a delicious sauce, choice steaks and a budget menu if you want it. The Calamari is not to be missed and the Stilton Cheese finale was splendid. I would like to see some more adventurous sea-food dishes (they used to do a fabulous Prawn Cocktail) but this should not detract from a a Gastro Pub right up there in the top 5%.More

Our latest visit was very disappointing. The food was very average and my ham and egg was tasteless and the egg was like rubber - likely to have been cooked in the air fryer. The peas were hard and the salad very average and lacking...in imagination. Previous visits have always been fantastic but this time something was different. However very friendly service and reasonable wine prices. Maybe the Chef was not up to it on this visit.More
