My husband, another couple and I went to dinner here on our last night in Playa del Carmen. It was by far the most expensive place we ate ($311 US), but no more than it would have cost for the same dinner in the states and the atmosphere is like nothing I have experienced in the states! We had early... more

Great place to eat regarding the cave and all, very cool. What was NOT cool was paying $5 US for water and spending A LOT on food that was AT BEST okay. For food in Playa Del Carmen you can get a lot more for a lot less. If you want a cool experience and don't mind way over paying... more

I would look past reviewers complaining about the smell etc. of the place. I thought that the surroundings were funky and interesting but the food was bad and the service was bad. I think that I would only go back if I were with a group of people and I was only going for drinks. Eat in Playa and then... more

What an experience. Eating in a cave...stunning scenery and excellent food and service. Went with another couple and had four different entres; all good and interesting. The shrimp dish was a stand out. For desert, we ordered the Crepes Suzette and the server put on quite a show with the flambe. Also, order to Mayan coffee - for the same... more

I had done my research on this restaurant long before arriving in Mexico.. The reviews I had read were mainly positive concerning the overall atmosphere of this restaurant but never really mentioned the food or the service.. We now know why. We pulled up to Alux around 7pm on a Wed. and the place was awesome! Though I would not... more

I was a little worried about the food after having read some of the reviews on here, but I don't think this place has been done justice. Were they a little bit higher priced than other places in town, yes; but it was worth every sent for the food alone. I had the Rib-eye and it was wonderful. Everyone else... more

My boyfriend and I visited Alex Cave, and we thought it was great. The atmosphere was wonderful. The prices were a little expensive, however we thought the food was good. We both got steak dinners. The service was very good as well. Alcohol was a little pricey. We payed $75 for two steaks, dessert, and one crown and coke. We... more

This place is nasty! Do you remember what the elephant house at zoo smells like? There is no ventilation. The food is gross. I had shrimp and it was old. The shrimp was bad it had a very fishy smell and was very mushy. The staff was very nice and the cave is cool. Just don't get more than pictures... more

I have never been to a restaurant as unique as this one. I will say something like this in California would probably be illegal because of all our strict codes. The maze of tunnels and pathways was awesome, they have lighted the place very well to catch the stalagmites. The food was OK not awesome but good, the prices were... more

I love caves, so the idea of sipping a cocktail in one, well, I couldn't resist. We didn't eat here, but plenty of people were in the restaurant section. We walked through the hallways (tunnels?). There were several cave rooms with a table for a private party and I thought what a great occasion that would be with a bunch... more
