This was my second time trying the lunch buffet here and I must say it has improved compared to my first try last year. I'd say the buffet is delicious and is on par with its nearby neighbor, India Gate. It's nice to see some different dishes from India Gate as India Gate's buffet has little variation from day to... If you go and order off the evening menu, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Best chicken biryani in town, for sure! Everything is delish and all seems to be cooked fresh to order. More

No, this place is not some posh place over-decorated with red velvet and such. There are Christmas lights on the outside windows, and vinyl seats. But the food is wonderful, the service was more than friendly enough, and prices were decent. Korma chicken for $14, Biryani beef for $15, etc. Lamb is pricy, usually $7-8 more than beef and chicken... More

We went to Shalimar largely because of the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. We went after the buffet had finished for the day, and ordered from the menu. The young woman who served us was friendly enough, and the restaurant was clean and pleasant, but the food was a disappointment. We ordered the butter chicken, beef korma, and vegetable Jalfrezi, along... More

Very tasteless meal. Place empty and rather cool service. Not recommended. More

My husband & I enjoy dining out and have eaten in upscale, down home & 'hole on the wall' venues. Shalimar has friendly staff, good service and wonderful south Asian cuisine. The samosa very tasty and just enough spice :-). Our meals were flavorful w/ a blending of spices that satisfied the palate. We would definitely return to Shalimar to... More

Service was pleasant and the dishes were spicy. There were very few choices on the menu. If you come here, you must be prepared to have the signature dish from that culture. This may not be a place for pickier eaters. More

Based on the tripadvisor ratings, my wife and our two young kids had an early dinner at Shalimar while on holiday. We left feeling very satisfied. Place was empty, food came quickly. At home in Toronto, we order in from Amaya, an upscale Indian place that we love. Shalimar was a cut above Amaya (in term of food, not ambiance... More

Made a point of dining here with my family while in town as we enjoy South Asian cuisine and it is rated #1. Remember in Pulp Fiction the bit about the $5 milkshake? This place has the $5 samosa. It was tasty, and came with some chana, but yikes the price! If you are accustom to eating South Asian food... More

I agree - after eating at a number of St. Johns restaurants during a family vacation, I would not say that Shalimar is #1. It was fine, but I have certainly had many other similar meals which I would rate much better. The service wasn't great - we were ignored in favour of a couple of other tables that came... More
