About
We are a traditional English tearoom, offering cream teas, hot dishes, salads and sandwiches all day, and all freshly prepared to order. It's not 'fast food' and sometimes, especially busy days in the summer, there may be a bit of a wait for the food. It could probably be done quicker, and cheaper, but it wouldn't be as good. Our tea-list is certainly unique - nowhere else in the world are you offered teas from every continent. We're proud that the much-missed Tea Guild, in their final annual awards in April 2013, again gave us an Award of Excellence - the eighth year running, counting the time they declared us the best tea-place in the country. The Times newspaper has listed us in their top

Peacocks tea rooms are situated by the river in Ely . Because it was a weekend, the tea room was very busy, so we had to wait a little while before we were taken to our table. We were then given a menu and decided...to go for cream tea for two. There is a variety of choices of teas to choose from .Staff were attentive professional, happy, and positive even though they were working flat out at the time. All in all, it was a very happy experience which was well worth the wait.More

This perfect tea rooms with B&B are unmissable. The ambience and produce as well as the service are second to none. The B&B rooms are the most beautiful in East Anglia with superb rooms, wonderful views, every book you could want to read, tea, biscuits...and fresh milk and fruit provided in the large rooms and a memorable bathroom bigger than most bedrooms. Our lunch and tea were sublime and our breakfast delicious. All the teas were amazing- we just did not have time to sample them all…! We will return soon and thanks to all the super-friendly staff as well as Rachel and George.More

I visited this tea room as it appears listed as the best in many sites and had some raving reviews. It started well, as it is a very cozy place with a lot of personality and very cute china. I went at lunchtime, ordered tea...and a special of the day: soup with a cheese scone. The tea was nice, and it came in pretty crockery. The soup was tasteful, but a bit watery and to be frank, scarce in quantity. I guess it comes with a scone, which means to be the filling part of lunch. The issue was: the cheese scone was probably among the worst scones I ever tried - dry as the desert despite the butter I spread on it, tasteless and just not enjoyable. I love scones and was looking forward to it - I wasn’t able to eat more than two small bites. I never leave food on the plate, but I left the scone, despite my hunger. Still quite hungry after the nicely tasting but too light leek and Stilton soup, I ordered a slice of carrot cake, which looked delicious. Alas, it was the worst carrot cake I ever tried - the cake was undercooked, bland and just not good. I gave up after a forkful, despite my hunger. It came with a whole walnut on top of the frosting - which I ate, and it was stale! I paid 19 pounds for a tea, soup on the watery side and terrible baked goods with stale walnuts on top. The servers seemed totally oblivious and distracted - when I asked for the bill with my practically uneaten scone and carrot cake (except a small bite), and they took the food away, no one asked if there was anything wrong, or how everything was. Maybe this is considered normal with the food they serve? Terribly disappointed, not the best service and some of the worst baked goods I ever tried, for an unreasonably high price for the quality. I don’t know what happened today - but I will definitely not be coming back. Maybe just for a tea but no food. (The tea was good, and they have a wide selection) If anyone wonders if my standards are maybe too high, know this: still quite hungry, I visited another tea room in Ely near the cathedral and went for another tea and a scone. The scone was simply delightful, what a difference!More

We visited here after seeing reviews on Trip Adviser and were not disappointed. Cosy feel with lovely china teapots, cups etc. Mixed ages in our group but all enjoyed our lunch which varied from scones to a cooked lunch. The staff were very pleasant and...obliging. Very extensive menu of different teas and food. When you come out you are right near the river so great for a walk along to look at the boats there. Watch for the opening times though as we returned on the following Monday only to find it was closed and doesn’t open every day.More

I am reluctant to review this wonderful tearoom as I would rather like to keep it a secret. What a gem, a real tearoom, with wonderful food and great service. Very attractive inside and with an equally lovely garden. You may have to queue to...get in but it is well worth the wait. Parking available nearby. An amazing find. Can't wait to go again.More

Really popular tearoom with a wait to get a table but that’s because they don’t cram everyone in. Loads of tables and a choice of indoor and outdoor seating - we sat in the rear garden which was beautiful. Pleasantly surprised by the pricing -...3 cakes and two drinks for under £20. Carrot cake was best of our 3 cake stops in Ely. Tried the chocolate scone, not to our taste, but nice all the same. Cheese scone delicious. Relax, too relaxed at times as we did wait a while for our cakes after the drinks arrived but better that than being rushed in and out. Friendly polite staff. RecommendedMore

As well as being a magnificently atmospheric and tasty tearoom, Peacocks has a double room/apartment where you can B&B stay above the tea 'action'. It has an equally attractive antiquey feel, with a large lounge, wonderful bedroom and delightful ensuite bathroom, all really well equipped....The breakfast was classy. Our host was engaging and informative. And you have the added pleasure of overlooking the Great Ouse river! Not cheap, but worth every penny!More

Peacocks have seen us visit for well over twelve years. Unfailing good service and top notch food and drinks keep us coming back. Long term employees become friends and never fail to make you welcome. Sandra, for example, does just that and likely as not...knows what we want before we do. Margaret and DennisMore

From the moment I arrived at Peacocks Tearoom, I received top-quality service from all the staff with whom I interacted. They showed a level of kindness, attentiveness, and generosity that I have never experienced during my travels. I was greeted with a warm smile, two...types(!) of tea, and cake, and I departed with farewells and well wishes. The Brewery Suite in which I stayed was spacious (it has three rooms) and clean, and it had an amazing view. The breakfast guests receive was delicious and accompanied by great conversations. I'd highly recommend Peacocks Tearoom to those looking for a place to stay while visiting Ely. Not only is it a fantastic tearoom and B&B, but it is conveniently located to the river, Ely Cathedral, and other attractions.More

I'm so sorry but I honestly don't know if they allow small dogs (or any dogs). I do have a cocker spaniel but he didn't accompany me on the visit to this venue - but it IS superb!
