The Peacocks Tearoom has a nice selection of very tasty toasties and too many delicious desserts. Their selection of teas is the best we've seen in England thus far. The service is very good, and the tearoom has a nice, friendly atmosphere. Ely is a wonderful destination in general, and this tearoom is a big part of that for us.

Having popped in for tea and cakes on Saturday morning which was very nice with excellent service we thought we would return for lunch. What a mistake! We were expecting a wait as it is obviously a very popular place and we were in a queue behind another couple. After the couple in front were seated we were told they... More

How easy it is to disappoint people! We tend not to do it on purpose here and I'm so sorry it happened to you. Since you didn't wait to hear the full story, this is what happened. I had just been approached by a lady who pointed out her group sat at a table outside and said they had decided... More

If you are ever in Ely, England, please take the time to visit and have tea in Peacocks Tearoom at the end of Waterside Street. The staff was so friendly. I had never had an English "tea" experience before so along with my two girlfriends we ordered the Full Monty (sandwiches, scones, and cake) and also a sandwich plate to... More

One of the best (or possibly *the* best) tearoom I've ever been to! We had the 'Full Monty' afternoon tea which was absolutely great. Delicious homemade scones and cakes and very friendly service. Getting vegetarian sandwiches was no problem (the waitress even came back specially to ask whether we eat fish, eggs, etc.). Best of all: They have a great... More

This is a gem of a place with the best coffee that I have ever had. The food is of a great standard and the setting is lovely if a tad crowded. The only advice I would give is to avoid rushed times as it can feel a bit claustrophobic .

A good place for a really good cup of tea and such variety. I chose Lapsang Souchong, which demands a good fruit cake. But....no fruit cake. Tbe suggested alternative of cheesey crumpets was a good suggestion, but they were poorly executed; hinting at the use of a microwave. So not quite an excellent rating from me. A good venue in... Good scones, filling sandwiches and so many sorts of tea to choose from! All served on old fashioned miss matched bone china. Maybe customers are slightly crammed in on a busy Sunday, and not the cheapest place to have a snack, but worth it for the old fashioned tea room experience.

It's a Real Experience We went to Peacocks after visiting the Cathedral. It was a nice day and would like to have been outside, but all tables were occupied. But inside, I think the experience was more enjoyable. Here you have a 'family' who clearly enjoy running the tea-room, which, unsurprisingly was voted the top tea-room in the country one... More

Thanks for those kind words. Rachel and I have put a lot of thought and effort into the tearoom and it's good to hear it is appreciated. I know we don't really qualify as cheap - the whole country seems depressingly expensive sometimes - but we try to give good value. A cream tea, with lashings of Cornish clotted cream... More

Much recommended and not a disappointment Quality food in a relaxed if busy cafe, The quality of the food was outstanding. The cost of the tea for two isn't cheap but for such wonderful homemade cakes it is well worth the price, Will defiantly be back.

Very good food, very good quality and very fresh, excellent range to pick from. Too many tables squeezed into the rooms, 1 less = less profit but improved experience for all. Waitresses squeezing past tables, I was nudged by them and customers many times, not good. Our table was ideal for 2 but we were a group of 4! Finally... More

Thank you Grandad2, you make some good points. One of our rooms can be a bit cramped, and I spend some of my time discouraging customers from packing themselves in too tightly, so I'm planning improvements soon. I'm not sure about the scarves though - to tell the truth I hadn't noticed them. You obviously have a more acute eye... More
