Lovely spacious restaurant overlooking Fistral Beach, Newquay with plenty of paid parking nearby. Welcome was warm and friendly, atmosphere relaxed and staff fun and attentive during visit. Food quality was high as we have come to expect and portion sizes generous. Prices were also reasonable...given the quality. Dog friendly too.More
Disappointing visit. No plates - food served in plastic cardboard boxes, awkward to eat from at dinner. Some food cold and salty.
This was so disappointing! I wont bother again, the food was simply awful. I had beef rendang, which was devoid of beef! and the size or a starter, even including the rice. It comes in a cardboard container, which is rather like a dogs bowl...trying to emulate street food, but uninspiring. However, it was the portion size that really upset me, as it was tiny. Why would you serve fish and chips with an ok portion size to one person and a starter equivalent to the other? I had to sit there looking at my empty dog bowl having taken as long as I could to eat my one oxo cube sized piece of beef, in sauce while my friend munched away fish and chips. It beggars belief.....if they state on the menu that the portion sizes are tiny, you have the option of ordering something else, but they don't! The other problem, which sadly since covid is the number of dogs, just too many of them, and wet dog smell, in a restaurant...!More
Visited here as we were looking for fish and chips and visited based on the name. To be fair when we sat down I read the reviews and thought had I made a mistake however. The food was great not greasy, flavoursome and enjoyable. We...had the family platter and it was nice as a light lunch which was exactly what we was looking for. The view was also spectacular.More
We took our family down to Fistral There were nine of us in all We live in St Dennis and are in the catering industry Our meals were cold and with numerous black chips on our plate The curry sauce was awful not chip shop...style it was runny and tasteless We do visit a lot but not going again Quite expensiveMore
Despite it being a quiet, off-season visit we waited for a while to be seated (or even acknowledged!). We then waited even longer for our order to be taken and that only happened because we asked the waitress to take it or she would have...continued on her way happily ignoring us. The food took a while to arrive - I had chosen the smaller portion of fish n chips which at £11.99 wasn’t too bad value for the size but there was minimal difference between mine and my husbands large serving at £15.99 so I definitely got the better deal. The fish was nice which is the only reason for giving 2 stars but the chips were cold and bland. My daughter had ordered cheesy chips and a bread roll. It took so long for her chips to be delivered that we had half finished our meals before hers arrived and at one stage I went and asked one of the waiters if her order had been forgotten about. Any proper chippy knows that you don’t just serve up a dry bread roll - you can’t do a proper chip butty without a hefty amount of butter. Despite making my feelings clear at the time - even responding to the waitresses standard question of how the meal was with a terse “average” there was no follow up question or attempt to resolve any of our issues. I wouldn’t recommend a visit here and we won’t be returning.More
Most disappointing beef rendang I have ever had. Rendang is a dish which is slow cooked in coconut milk so that the beef is infused with the coconut milk flavours In addition the blend of spices used gives this dish its unique flavour. The dish...I had today was bland and tasteless and totally lacked the coconut flavours, both the milk and the roasted grated coconut. All in all a disappointing experience. A dish to avoid. Rick Stein should stick to fish and chips.More
Having been here numerous times a few years ago, we were so looking forward to our meal last night. Previously the food had been absolutely delicious, with generous portions - but sadly that was no longer the experience. I had Hake and chips and the...portion of Hake was far from generous and the chips dreadful. My husband had the Haddock and chips, and although his portion was a better size, as with my meal the food quality was well below expectations. My sons’ Pad Thai was fair, and my daughters’ burger was quite good - but we go there for the fish and chips, so based on our meal last night, we won’t be back.More
I’ve given it a 2 as the view was excellent but as for the food , it was not good ! Cod and chips £17.99 if you want peas that’s extra , if you want anything else apart from fish and chips it’s all EXTRA...! The chips had black bits in which is not nice , I had to pick my way through them , the fish was nice enough though , Now Rick , you’re supposed to be a wonderful chef and you know presentation is everything , so just cod and chips on a metal tray is not a good presentation . Maybe I should pop in and show you myself Cod chips peas ( mushy or garden) slice of lemon & tartar sauce offered , this is a meal , and worth £17.99 not your efforts . You’ve had your last penny from me enjoy !More
Had fish and chips recently. Was really looking forward to it, fish is normally super tasty by the seaside and Rick Stein (apparently) has a good reputation for amazing fish and chips, can’t say we experienced this though! Extremely overpriced and disappointing. Fish was nothing...special with soggy thick batter. Chips were vile, hard and tasted undercooked. I’ve had much better for half the price!More
This was the best fish and chips I think I’ve ever had. Quick service, beautiful location even in October. I wasn’t mad about the decor and the furniture was benches so not very comfortable but ok for a quick bite.
Casual dinning, unable to book but plenty of seating available. Beautiful views, good service and lovely food, will be retuning soon we hope.
Really disappointing restaurant. You're paying for a brand that is not living up to expectations. I had battered bream which was really good, but the chips were grim. They weren't well cooked at all meaning that all three of us left half a plateful each....When we arrived, the restaurant was about half full and several diners were finishing their meals. It took between 10 and 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and that was only because I caught the attention of a server. We took the opportunity to order our food then too as we had no idea when the staff would come back over. Staff didn't check in about our food or take any further drinks orders. We got the bill after having to catch someone's attention again and left. We don't expect to return.More
Great place to visit. A wide selection of fish and some meat/veg dishes to fall back on. Friendly staff and a great wine list make for a great evening
