Dined here in September 2009 and found the food was great. It was as good as the other Michelin restaurants we have dined in. The service and range of wine was also excellent. I would definitely dine here again on my next trip more

After just reading some of the other reviews it compelled me to write one of my own. I have been lucky enough to eat at The Elephant on half a dozen or so occassions and have not once felt let down with the service or quality of the food. Nice welcome I think? or were we interrupting a staff conversation.. the place was empty but they were turning away people saying they were full, we dont like butter or oil on our vegetables so we asked if it was possible to have them without our the waitress said she would check that they could do this?? Torquay does not seem awash with good eateries, so I was delighted to find The Elephant. I ate in the brasserie, and enjoyed scallops and sea bream - both excellent, although portions are small. Attentive, friendly service, pleasant decor and a well edited menu and wine list make for a very pleasant dining experience. Wpuld highly recommend. more

Stayed in Torquay for short break, found other restaurants pricey and pretentious, without providing the quality. Then came across the Elephant. The Elephant provides a wonderful gastronomic experience in a very attractive setting by the harbour.... in the fine dining room the individual courses are an experience in themselves and the entire tasting menu adds up to being a fabulous collective treat..... with excellent service and attention....
