My wife and I had a fabulous, languid splurge Sunday lunch here. We arrived for a late lunch with the restaurant bustling with satisfied diners (for example, a family with three generations at the table). We went for three courses a la carte with plenty of wine which came to a hefty 93 pounds for two but it was worth... more

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit. We came away saying that the food was excellent. A very good wine list. Fish cakes to start with were first class; duck and plaice to follow were good too. We wanted to finish with a cafe latte but were told it was not served. Couldn't understand why. Disappointing. The overall service... more

Very pleasant evening meal at the Landgate Bistro...good choice of local fish and meat and wines. My wife's Squid salad starter had a real kick to it and my fishcakes were very tasty. We both had Dover Sole to follow which was superb. The Lemon Tart and Creme Brulee puddings that followed were excellent. Friendly atmosphere and staff...service slowed a... more

We had a lovely lunch at the bistro. The set lunch is very reasonable at less than 12 pounds for two courses, and they were both excellent. It was evident that the food was very fresh and it was expertly prepared. It's one of the best meals I've had in my four months in England. more

I was taken to the Landgate Bistro by relatives to celebrate my birthday this weekend. The lamb was excellent ! We enjoyed a great meal with very good service. The weather was very warm, so the restaurant was quite hot. More ventilation would have made the atmosphere a little more comfortable, but it didnt really detract from our meal. more

I do hope the previous reviewer will change her mind and re-visit the Landgate Bistro. Even good restaurants have an off day. We,a party of four, had dinner there on Sat 30th May. The food was very good indeed, and the service excellent. The lamb,in particular, was absolutely brilliant. All four of us were very pleased we had made a journey of 20miles... more

I only visited this restaurant after reading the good reviews & what a let down! Three of the courses on the menu they had run out of & when I ordered the sea bass was told it should never have been on the menu as they wasnt serving it (I was only told this after they had taken my order?!)... more

Management response from

We're sorry that these customers did not enjoy their experience, but we'd like to make a few comments. On a very busy Sunday lunch we did have to make some changes to the menu of the last table. If you're using fresh local produce where the catch is subject to the weather that is going to happen occasionally. We serve...

what a gem
