When we moved to Winchester this restaurant had a reputation for being over priced and under delivering on service. When one of our friends recommended it we were astounded but then found out there was a new chef and owner (I think) anyway we bit the bullet and I am very glad we did, this is definitely in the top... more

My husband treated me to a meal at the Chesil Rectory for my birthday as I had always wanted to go. Luckily for him under the new ownership the average price on the menu has dropped considerably. Or maybe he did know and that's why I was finally treated to a meal here? On arrival we were greeted with a... more

Promising menu let down by mediocre execution and a lack of thought generally (e.g. portions are small which doesn't work in a restaurant styling itself on a bistro). Starter of fish soup was reasonably well made but a little thin. Main of halibut and chips was a real let down, the fish being cold and small, but the chips were... more

Last week I visited the Chesil Rectory in Winchester for the first time since it's re opening & what a pleasant surprise, it has completely changed and for the better. The dark rooms and stuffyness have gone its been redecorated so you can see what a beautiful building it is. But the important bit, the food. I really don’t understand... more

What an unbelievable dining experience this was........first off the building is just incredible, the decor perfect - whoever was responsible for the interior design should be applauded as they have created ancient history meets modern, classic chic with style and taste. From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left the level of service was wonderful.... more

One of the oldest buildings in Winchester apparently, dating back to 1450 it is a Grade II listed building. Complete with low ceilings and wooden beams, this is a perfect setting for a special occasion. Book well before you intend to go as it is a fairly small place. The food is absolutely excellent, top quality (it has been awarded... more

Wow what a change the Chesil has undergone. I went there recently with some friends and had one of the best evenings in a long time. The food was superb, we were recommended excellant choices of wine to compliment our dishes and the service was outstanding, the manageress there was the perfect host. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look... more

I visited the newly reopened Chesil Rectory just before christmas and couldn't believe the transformation. I went there once before in 2007 and found it very stuffy and expensive; but it's completely different now. The food was classic british faves, really delicious and very reasonable - our bill came to under £60 for two including a great bottle of sauvignon... more

After months of waiting for the new owners to open this delightful building up and from seeing their nicely designed website on which they let you know that each of the staff members have shares in this business - bit too much information for a foodie! On booking our reservation we dealt with this woman who is front of house... more
