We dined on a Saturday evening in September (term-time) during a weekend sightseeing visit to Winchester. The central location was great, a charming 5 minute walk from our intown hotel and through the Cathedral grounds. The menu was't extensive but the variation sufficient to find something for everyone. I stayed overnight in one of the pubs rooms just across the road (not cheap at £95) but I wanted somewhere with a good english pub atmosphere.......I was not disappointed. Wykeham Arms is a perfect example of a country town pub and if you are in Winchester you must go for a drink. The food is alright but not exceptional. The service can be slow. All the upscale, established locals go here, so it's not a singles/teen hangout but also it's not a place for louts. A nice mix of... more

Always on my list of places to go when I visit Winchester. Have especially fond memories of the cheese selection... their stilton was so well kept that it converted to blue cheese after years in the wilderness! more
