Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Hoping for a Hazy IPA or Craft Ale there were none on offer, but not wanting to walk out and disappoint the chap behind the bar, we ordered two halves of ordinary IPA for what we thought would be a quiet rest as it wasn't...busy at all. Unfortunately, our hopes were dashed soon after we sat down by some individual having a go at the chap behind the bar. Don't know what his problem was but his language was obscene and offensive and the chap behind the bar just stood there letting him get on with it so we finished our drink and left a bit hastier than we would have otherwise. Won't be coming back here again!More

On the way back after a day wandering through Canterbury to our house we went for a quick pint. It was quite early so to be honest we can't tell much about how it will or would be later on. We enjoyed it.nice atmosphere. They...serve a nice variety of lagers. Friendly staff, clean toilets. Would like to come back another time again.More

I tried this pub with my girlfriend. Undoubtedly here there are the best burgers in Canterbury, excellent beers and very good prices. The place is comfortable and the staff very kind. I will return

I know it's a busy pub that gets lively later on but there is no excuse for poor bar staff. I went in yesterday to get out of the rain. Go to bar for a pint and this "bar maid" ignores me and serves someone...else. Bite your tongue, I say to myself, it's much better being on this side of the bar. Then she finished with him and walks off ignoring me. Also felt it was full of wankers to be honest.More

I was on a solo piss mission over the weekend (a rare treat) - this place was by far the best venue I visited, all the staff were very kind and funny. Special thanks to Izzy, Amelia and Summer !

Well my little egg buns, this place looks gorgeous from the outside, a tempting delight for the travellers eyes. Enter the door, still a gorgeous taste of the eye palette. A decent selection of drinks, could have more cider options. Quite slow service, but the...patrons seem friendlyMore

Following a meal, we were looking for a beer in town and chanced upon the black Griffin, we followed the covid rules, staff were friendly and helpful. The service was good but I'm sure there must me more to the building itself.

Visited on Friday before the Theatre and had some lovely snacks in the back garden. Enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day and done it all again. Spicy chicken and Cajun chips were my favourite. Lovely food, great location, friendly staff...and wasn’t too busy. Enjoyed the rose wine a bit too much as well. Will definitely go back.More

Absolutely nothing bad to say about this pub. Very popular with students and locals alike, The Black Griffin is just a standard pub.

Came in for lunch... very friendly bar staff who highly recommended the homemade pies and she wasn’t wrong. I had the goats cheese, sweet potato and spinach pie with mash and it was banging. My partner also enjoyed her hunters chicken. Great food and great...service. Will recommend I’m a fussy eater but that pie was delicious Happy customer from Hertford Chef DeanMore
