We stopped to have a light lunch at Ambleside. We both had the soup, butternut, and a ciabatta with garlic houmous and salad. Both dishes were very tasty. I was impressed with the different types of food available on the menu, Mediterranean, but also dishes with a South African flavour or a different take of known dishes. I would look... More

The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and they make a real effort with the candles etc however sadly our meal was disappointing which was a shame. The food was tasteless and my main meal was far too large. We have previously stopped in for coffee and cake which was delicious however our evening experience didn't live up to the... More

Called in with friends on a wet afternoon and ordered a hot chocolate which came with cream and marshmallows; good but would have benefited from darker stronger cocoa to offset the cloying sweet creamy complements. One friend found his chocolate cake choice too sweet although looking at the selection there were some glorious choices. Lucy's for afternoon tea is definitely... More

Lucy's is usually very busy but on this second visit we easily got space and were greeted by the elusive eponymous restauranteur. Sunday lunch starter was mussels (a bit on the skinny-side these) and the main was a brownish yorky pud with some prime half-rare pieces of beef - really tasty. Partner had goat cheese starter followed by grilled hake... More

We've been visiting Lucy's 'on and off' for many years on our relatively infrequent trips to the Lake District. Early retirement meant the chance to visit out of school holidays, so we booked Lucy's and had two fabulous meals, with attentive, friendly staff to add to the overall experience. Lucy "meets and greets" as long lost friends - even though... More

The first thing that struck us about Lucy's on a Plate was the friendly, professional attitude of all of the staff. They were attentive without being overbearing. The next thing was the menu with changes on a daily basis. It is a bit of a struggle as there is far, far too much text. The aim is to convey the... More

Having previously just passed by this Restaurant, we decided to "give it a go" on our recent visit to Ambleside at the back end of April. The menu is more expensive than some in the town but is very varied and we came away having had an excellent meal and would certainly go back. We would recommend them for their... More

The quality of the food makes Lucy's very good indeed. If the service was better it would be an excellent restaurant. We were made to wait at the entrance for 5/10 minutes without anyone acknowledging we were there. Lots of staff, all beaveirng away doing their own thing, none willing to say 'hello' or 'be with you in 2 ticks',... More

We were a large family group and all enjoyed a lovely meal - the dessert menu runs to 2 sides of A4!! The menu is personalised each day, which is a great touch and caused much amusement in our family.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend & we are so pleased we went. The menu & its personal touch was great. I had a starter of Scallops and a steak with chips for my main. All amazing and good sized portions. My husband had belly pork followed by game casserole. Everything was lovely. Service was great, atmosphere lovely. And... More
