We found this little gem last year and just had to come back! The pies, as always, were delicious! The sausage and black pudding pie is by far the best I have had too. And being dog friendly is a great thing as well!

Visted Humblepie on 18th May, we had trawled (forgive the pun) round Whitby looking for something other than Fish & Chips, (am not a fish lover!). Was met by friendly people, no nonsense approach, a group came in just after us and there was some good banter to be had bewteen us all, Had neeps & haggis pie (the bloke...

This little gem of a place is quite small inside, adorned with items from bygone eras. I had the Chicken in Cider pie without the peas/mash/gravy and it was quite nice, although I found the pastry a little rich for my liking. The fare is basic and the menu limited, but priced fairly. Lovely.
Wow! all those positive things you wrote about and only managed a 3*
Sorry the pastry was not to your taste and you found it rich, Was it really worth knocking 2 stars off for? If so then i actually give up. Tonight i will be drinking whisky , lots of whisky and then i am going to imagine you...

We attempted to eat at this pie and mash shop, but we were soon put off by a dog sat on a chair at the next table,as much as i like dogs they should not be in eating areas, let alone at the table,i have been in the catering trade for over 30 years shame on this owner.
Sorry but it is perfectly legal to allow dogs inside cafes, but we also offer a dog free area upstairs, i feel your review is caustic and insulting , Why should i be ashamed ? this is extremely unfair of you to leave a one star because of YOUR opinion on how MY cafe should be run.

I would suggest that most people, unless they are looking for a high class fine dining experience, should ignore most of the previous negative reviews. We stayed in Whitby for a week, and ate here twice. The surroundings are vintage, with interesting objects on display that have been found in this old building during renovation. If the downstairs room seems...

Hi Thanks for your review and restoring my faith in nice customers, Lately we have been invaded by people who are missing the point totally and marking us down for the most ridiculous stuff.
Now mushy peas, if you look back through my previous responses its something we have tried many times in the past (last trial November 12)

this place has a few mixed reviews and as we were in whitby for the day we decided to try it out,the eating area is quite small downstairs but there is further seating on another floor the table we sat at was a bit rocky but it didnt stop us from enjoying our meal, myself and my mum had the steak...

The food good value -served in enamel dishes. I had the chicken pie & hubby had the steak -both full of meat & piping hot, but would have preferred mushy peas not garden ones. . Was a bit scruffy inside -dirty unironed tablecloth -tho they were ready for closing -we just got in as last pies available.
Sat near the...

Really wanted to give this little place a good review after waiting so long to try it, but was so disappointed, personally I would not return as it was cramped and quite scruffy inside rickety old furniture and un ironed tablecloths, service was rushed and not especially friendly. and the Pies were a real disappointment my steak filling was dry...

Hello, I get so frustrated with customers like your selves who will sit there not happy but refuse to say anything at the time.
At our shop you will get asked a minimum of at least twice to see if your happy with your meal sometimes more, It appears you have refused to tell us at the time, which makes...

We were quickly served and couldn't decide which pies to order. My husband had the steak and I had the chicken both pies were filled with meat we were VERY impressed....

Went here for lunch on 9th May, we had the sausage and black pudding and the chicken and cider. Both were simply wonderful, hot, nourishing, delicious and very, very reasonably priced!
The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant and we will most definitely be returning when we're next in the Whitby area, it will be this autumn, so pie and mash...
