Visited with friends and my partner for a Saturday lunch. They had raved about what a fantastic restaurant it was so we were really looking forward to it. I have to say although the food was good it didn’t have the “wow factor” I was expecting. As mentioned the set menu is good value but the preferred main dish of... more

We have eaten at L'ortolan several times over the past few years and have always had excellent food with exceptional service. The set menu's represent excellent value (£32 for a 3 course lunch including a glass of fizzy wine) and the food really is exceptional (we have eaten at most of the top restaurants of the world). The only negative... more

As a present for being Best Man the groom bought us both a Demonstration Studio experience. We are both keen amateur cooks and had a brilliant time. The Demonstration was by Robin Gosse who was fantastic. He was patient with us, answered all of our questions no matter how stupid and was funny to boot. The food he cooked us... more

Took family for lunch to celebrate a birthday - couldn't fault the food, service or value. Every course was a delight, and with the little extras such as the chef's appetiser (celery and apple soup - sounds average, but anything but!), pre-dessert (apple jelly with yogurt cream and ginger crunch), and wonderful breads, the whole experience was memorable. Service formal... more

I consider myself very lucky to have what is in my opinion one of the UK's top 10 restaurants practically on my doorstep. I go there with colleagues or to wine and dine clients 2/3 times a month, because it is such insanely good value for what you pay and also I know they are more than capable of delivering... more

For my Birthday my husband booked us the chef's table experience. This was a lovely treat and a great experience to see the kitchen at work and have the chance to chat with the staff. I think we had something like 14 courses before we had cheese followed by a platter of desserts, but all the courses were perfectly sized... more

This restaurant has a lovely setting, spacious layout and well thought out menu with some great dishes. The staff are knowledgeable, decisive, unobtrusive, but can be quite snobby in their attitude. I feel this restaurant is living on it's reputation, however has so much potential to be great again! I would still recommend this restaurant to friends, but would only... more

I have been to L'Ortolan on many occassions - if I could afford to eat there more often then I would! But this is most definitely a special occasion type of restaurant, with prices to match. My last visit was with friends to celebrate a few peoples birthdays (all around the same date). We all had a great time; the... more

Positive:The food was expertly prepared and presented; the setting is nice. The wine waiter was excellent. However: We had a disasterous evening. On arrival there was nowhere to sit for pre-dinner drinks. The service was very slow. One hour after our booked dining time we were still waiting for something to eat. There were too many covers for the capability... more

My wife and I live close by and went for our wedding anniversary eraly May. We were both dissapointed, firstly by the lack of atmosphere and secondly by the food, we expected and have had a lot better and less expensive elsewhere. Only one brand of House Champagen by the glass, for a reataurant of this porportd calibre, not acceptable.... more
