Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The refurbishment is lovely and it was a great lively atmosphere until I went to the toilet - called Water Closet. Not clear that these toilets were unisex until I came out of one of just three cubicles to find men waiting. I understand that...there are toilets upstairs but one of the ladies we were with has mobility issues and so this wasn't an option. We decided to go elsewhere as we felt really uncomfortable with this. Having unisex toilets in a place where a lot of alcohol can be consumed and children and families are having food is unsafe and frankly unpleasant. For that reason I won't be returning. Perfectly good single sex toilets were removed - what a shame because everything else was great. At a time when night venues are closing and women are feeling more unsafe going out, it seems a backwards step to remove single sex toilets. The men we were with also agreed and felt it was inappropriate. At the very least, please improve the signage.More

What grabs you first is how professional, yet incredibly friendly the staff are. This is followed up by, not the widest selection of dishes, but what we chose was superb. Opting for the giant beef/rosemary pie to share was a good decision. A great selection...of Joules beers topped the evening off nicely. The management should be rightfully proud of the team, which added to the ambience of this great building. Highly recommend!More

Probably our favourite pub we visited in Shrewsbury. Very very old pub with wood panelling. Two sides to the bar. Lovely staff Excellent pint. Tried the food. Really , really good ! So good we returned … twice!

Lovely old building but very long wait to get served at the bar. My gin glass was full to the top with ice and I ended up leaving half of my very expensive Fever Tree tonic (not my preference. What happened to Schweppes?)because I couldn’t...taste the gin even with only a small addition of tonic. Wouldn’t rush back as so many other places to have a drink in ShrewsburyMore

Made a 12pm reservation online for Sunday roast for a table of 4. Arrived & seated on time. Tables all clearly marked with name & reservation time. Cheery greetings from all the staff. Erin our server helped with drink descriptions & was pleasant throughout our...entire reservation. Three roast beef & 1 pork loin w/ crackling dishes & 1 carrot & ginger soup starter. All of excellent quality, portion & presentation. Love the newly renovated interior. Very unique with all the cosy seating areas & the bar having access from two sides added yo the ambiance. Next time I’ll try & save room for a pudding. Nice to have such a great place close to home. We’ll be back!More

Visited here previously, always a pleasant family meal…however, today was a very different experience. The restaurant had recently been refurbished, but not for the better, which disappointed us. The menu was limited, and to add to this, they had sold out out of the fish...and chips. This made our options even more limited. The duck was dry, and the burger was small. They also had a problem with the heating. They offered to move us…however, no one followed this up. We paid, without any qualms. However, upon leaving and questioning a waitress about why no one followed up changing tables, the waitress became very defensive and abrasive, claiming she was unaware of the member of the staff who had seated us and told us that we could move seats. Upon further questioning, the waitress eventually revealed that the name of the waitress was “probably Ellie”, but did not respond any further. Poor customer service. Won’t be returning in a rush!More

From the outside looks like a typical medieval Inn, but was like a tardis inside, HUGE. Decided to have a lunchtime meal and although I asked "what was the pie of the day" (chicken & leek, which I didn't like) we ordered 2 fish, chips...with mushy peas & tartare sauce. Was a bit concerned when after a while the waitress came over and said "it was the fish & chips you ordered wasn't it" I looked at my wife and said "something is up there," anyway just after, the waitress came back to say "really sorry, but I accidently ordered the pies instead of the fish as you'd asked what was the pie of the day, but I'm really sorry and the chef is cooking the fish now and it won't be long" again apologising. We wasn't worried about the cock up as these things happen. When the food arrived the fish was overcooked and looked more like southern fried chicken, and the chips had been the original chips cooked and left on the plate which made them soft and very unappetising 😡 the fish was done (done as in very dead, in fact it had a better sun tan than me) The place had great appeal and was very relaxing with ambience. We will return but not to eat (sadly). End result we only ate the fish as we were hungry but left everything else, got 50% off but that meant we only paid for 1 fish & chips. A lesson learned.More

Great pub, both starter and main were popping hot and delicious. Beer was great but cocktails even better. Service was fab, much improved since they opened. I'm looking forward to a more expansive menu soon. I've seen negative comments about the unisex toilets, but surely...we've all got unisex toilets at home? There are seperate gents and ladies toilets upstairs if required. Looking forward to my next visit to the pubMore

The food was delivered to the table piping hot, and was absolutely bloody scrumptious! Choices were limited, but this is to be expected for a pub, rather than a restaurant. But definitely worth a try…. Vegan options available on all courses as well. 👍

Service was slow and by 19.30 a few options from the limited menu had already become unavailable. Starter of duck and trout were good, hubbys fish and chips were good but having had two of my three options being unavailable as they’d run out by...19.30 I went for the vegetable wellington. It was very dry and tasteless which was disappointing after a great starter. We had to prompt our waitress a few times for different things. All in all ok but wouldn’t return.More

This pub has had a fantastic makeover and it works really well. Very Christmassy and cosy when we were there. Lovely atmosphere. Above average Sunday roast with excellent choice of well cooked veggies, not the usual soggy, bland stuff you often get in pubs. Very...attentive and pleasant staff. Highly recommended.More

Awful food and terrible service, longest we have ever had to wait for food or drink. Also massively overpriced. Would not recommend it to anyone. Tiny unisex toilets.

ill give the girl behind the bar the benefit of the doubt because its xmas and very busy and she probably had enough of serving customers and also maybe she had something going on in her life which i hope gets resolved, but i think...the reason was she was being made to work probably at gun point ? or a member of her family was being held hostage and if she didn’t come in then harm would come to them ? i dont know but im worried for her !More
