I've only been once after years of overlooking it because of its name and lack of dim sum. However, on closer inspection, I noted that it was full of Chinese people and that the prices of their set dinners were very reasonable. Nice range of vegetarian options - I really enjoyed their beancurd and sweetcorn soup. Those roast ducks hanging... more

I have to admit that it is possible that as an Asian, I unconsciously set a higher bar. But putting aside the authenticity, the food here, trying as objective as I might, cannot be rated as good. I think it is just average. Not only the reviews here, but several locals mentionned this as the best Chinese in town. Encouraged,... more

Been going their for years for cheap lunches and early eaters. Portions are large and food comes out fast and hot. Great to feed your face but for more variety try the more authentic and obscure dishes from the main menu. I love their stewed sea food udon £6.90 which had a delicious fresh chilli kick and loaded with king... more

Chinatown Express is not an 'all you can eat buffet' nor has it ever been one. It is a good, cheap restaurant with a big menu. more

Reasonable for what it is (all you can eat buffet). They do a hotpot now where you choose and cook fresh ingredients at the table or something more

Well, I have got to say that this is the second best restaurant in Newcastle, behind Wagamama's in Eldon Square. Staff are polite, food is excellent (I highly recommend the King Prawn Satay) and you will not have to wait long for your food. A great restaurant and I can recommend it to everyone. more

The fact that this is where all the Chinese eat says something. Very authentic and very tasty. more

Staff where a little rude about the fact we had wanted a table half an hour before closing, which I don't think is unreasonable. The food was too "mass produced" and tasted like something you can buy from netto's. more
