I took the plunge and had haggis here, with a nice snifter of Talisker. Both were good. Had haggis there, i guess they do haggis in a modern trendy way, it was good. My freinds had fish and chips, they sad it was ok but we had much better at "the fishers" the day before. very friendly staff. more
We had read about the royal mcgregor on trip advisor and it was just round the corner from our hotel. We were going to have lunch on the sunday so decided to pop in, have a drink and familiarise ourselves with the place. Excelent meat in the heart of Edinbourgh.Space is limited. Possibly you have to wait for a table. more
It's just a bar like all the rest on the Royal Mile - go instead to Cafe Royal - at least it's prettier. more
Sorry to burst the bubble but we found the food to be quite ordinary. My husband and I had the Haggis Tower which was quite tasty but not very filling. My parents had the Steak Pie which was served with cold vegetables. Location is great but having read the glowing reviews we were disappointed. more
If you're looking for a good pub lunch/dinner that is close to where everything is, then the Royal McGregor is a good choice. I had the fish and chips (excellent) and hubby had the crofters chicken (excellent). A good place for a hard apple cider or an ale too.
