We wanted to go this place on our anniversary but I was sick so we had to cancel our reservation a few hours before the dinner. The person who answered the call shouted at my husband. He asked why doesnt he come, he lost money because of us. Its a shame because I heard that they have amazing food. I... More

Reading some of the revews on here I am just astounded about what people expect - this was my 4th visit to the Plumed Horse and it will not be my last. The food is simply amongst the best I have tasted - like many people claim I too have eaten out in some of the best restaurants - so... More

Still on business in Germany but keeping my eye on things nevertheless. This is so lovely to read. I'm almost certain folks will think we've paid you. LOL. You've been kind enough, by your writing, to let us know who you are. I'm glad you had such a lovely time. You always seem to enjoy our place but then, to... More

We went for Lunch on the recommendation of friends and colleagues and were not disappointed. The food was fabulous, enjoyed all courses - choice of cheese was fantastic - very good value for money, the service was attentive but not overly intrusive and the staff were extremely friendly. We had such a leisurely and relaxed meal. Lunch was so good that... More

I confess that I'm on business in Germany so it's lovely to read that our restaurant was enjoyed in my absence. Feeling homesick now. Thanks for that. Seriously. Thank you very much. Uplifting crit to read. Ian More

My boyfriend and i booked lunch at this restaurant as we were staying in Leith. The restaurant is not in an obvious place but keep walking down the road and you will find it. When we arrived apart from a table of 8 we were the only other people there and this was how it remained for the next two... More

Thanks for enjoying our food and service. Like everything else with your own business, it all matters. It also matters that any comparisons are made on a level playing field. You were disappointed with our atmosphere on a relatively quiet lunch time. In the same batch of reviews you say you enjoyed the candle lit atmosphere of The Witchery. Even... More

We were hoping for a Michelin experience and even stumped up for the wine matching (extra c£100 for 3 glasses wine!) to no avail. When asked to explain why the wine was chosen to go with a particular dish the waiter said as much as wine matching was nonsense and made no effort even to ask someone else. I would... More

Mmmh! I'm wondering whether to take this seriously! Again, no substance. I think we know that you've written before don't we? Each time we get this kind of thing coming up there is another review put on on the same day, by the same person, for somewhere else. Not everyone will love us. That's the way of the world. However... More

We spent new years eve at the Plumed Horse. As we have been there before we were expecting great things but it was not that great. By our own fault we were half an hour late because we got the time wrong and had to catch up. The soup was cold. We had caught up by the risotto but that... More

Well...I have to say. I'm a little hurt by this review. Of course I know who you are and you kept bringing up that you had made a mistake with the time. In an effort to appease I kept teling you not to worry and that maybe we hadn't made the time clear enough when you booked. That conversation must... More

Returning to a great restaurant can be a bit of a disappointment - well the opposite was true for the Plumed Horse. We went for dinner, and chose the tasting menu, with matching wines. Anne indicated that she didn't fancy the prune and armagnac souffle, and asked if she could choose an alternative dessert - no problem. Each course was... More

Not quite right Mr. McKelvie. The visit was topped off with a warm and friendly review on TripAdvisor for which we are most grateful. It's so satisfying to read words so well and kindly written. We look forward to seeing you yet again. Ian More

Plumed Horse Lunch 21st January 2012 Another excellent lunch here after our first a year ago. Things didn’t go totally 100% to plan but more of the very minor issues later. I am Vegan, my friend is not. First the very good parts and that in the main is as it should be the food. Delightful little amuse-bouche doing the... More

Firstly, Lovely to have you back and to receive another batch of compliments from a diner who is, though unfussy, a tad fussy...and a vegan to boot. Sorry I couldn't resist that wee light hearted dig. You were very kind in your last review also. We may need to bear the crispbread or baker's vegan bread thing in mind although... More

Excellent dinner – but without any recognizable own style, own concept, own signature. Just the usual luxury ingredients ... sounds snobbish, but when you dine out regularly on this level, you become a bit of annoyed – and picky. Maybe they should sharpen their profile and devolop a culinary style of their own? More

I have dined at the Plumed horse 3 times. Once when it was in Dumfriesshire, in November 2011 and most recently I booked the entire restaurant for my 50th birthday party lunch ( so no anonymity here!). This is simply a lovely place, the food is fantastic, the staff efficient and friendly, whether dining intimately or partying as we were,... More

...As you say, not annonymous. Thanks so much for this. You were quite fastidious in your planning. Whilst confident enough we are always a little wary in case some wee thing fails to meet expectations of "picky" diners. Especially on their very special birthdays. You, however, were far from the type I allude to. You were just lovely. As was... More
