We ate here on a Friday night. It was quite busy but the staff were attentive. We had ate there before and were wowed with the food. Unfortunately the quality has slipped. We ordered the mushroom rissotto for starters and both of us could only eat about 2 mouthfuls each. The waiter came over, saw we did not eat a... more

I visited the Winding Stair for a late lunch after arriving in Dublin, and was not disappointed. Most of the other guests appeared to be locals, with some business lunches going on. My friend and I disregarded the set meal, and enjoyed a main course and dessert. My friend had the duck, and was in ecstasy. I had the pork... more

The Winding Stair Restaurant is a delightful restaurant along the river in Dublin. Ascending the winding stairs above a nice bookstore, dinners enter the restaurant through a swinging door, entering a beautiful room with rough wood floor, a nice bar, and a view of the kitchen. Tables are well placed and the pace of the meal is relaxed and enjoyable.... more

My husband booked this restaurant to surprise me on our first wedding Anniversary - he had telephoned three tmes in advance to ensure that the champers was prebooked and on the table as we arrived, which it wasn't. Staff apologised, but of course the special moment had passed. Food was disappointing, vegetables were practically raw, steak nothing to write home... more

After reading the reviews on trip advisor my partner and I decided to try The Winding Stair for dinner. We were not disappointed! I had the potted crab to start, which was delicious followed by the butternut squash and goat's cheese tart - pasty to die for! My partner started with the seafood chowder, absolutely gorgeous, followed by the ray,... more

We decided to have dinner here for our last night in Dublin. I dropped in early to make reservations, just in case. Upon arrival later that day, I was very surprised that it was packed on a Tuesday! The place and the staff were very welcoming. The restaurant itself was very small but it had a lot of charm and... more

Went here on recommendation from Trip Advisor and had a wonderful evening. The food was just gorgeous as were the waiters! Quite basic inside (like a school room) but lots of atmosphere and staff very eager to please. Pays to book more

Two of us walked in without reservations and had a fabulous meal. Would highly recommend whatever the specials are as the food is local and very fresh. Best food we had in Dublin! more

We visited the Winding Stair in July while in Dublin for a Leonard Cohen concert. It is easy to see why it is busy: atmospheric, friendly service and excellent ingredients. The problem is they cook without salt and don't tell you in advance; that includes potatoes. How much salt you put in cooking is, of course, a matter of taste.... more

Indifferent food, indifferent staff. We were really disappointed after our visit. My recommendation would be get down the stairs and try Talbot 101 instead more
