I have been here many times and without exception the food (mainly seafood) has been excellent. On top of that it has a very relaxed, casual atmosphere. We bring our 2 children mainly around 6pm and find it a very family friendly restaurant. Service is excellent. There are few restaurants of this quality in Dublin. Expect to pay 15 to... more

Visited the Oar House - only because Aqua was full (should have reserved) - and was told we could have a table in about 20 minutes. We said we would wait. We then waited for nearly an hour, despite reminding the rather scruffy head waitress that we were still there.... we overheard her give tables to 2 groups of locals... more

I went to the Oar House mainly because great reviews on several places. So the expectations wwere very high. And the place didn´t kept them. Nice sarvines for start, but if you want really excelent sardines come to Portugal. Good crab but not superb. For mains we´ve choosen Prawns Pil Pil and Sizzling Skewered Prawns - both acceptable but the... more

Had lunch here on a Bank Holiday Monday. Very crowded -- full by 13:00 and many people turned away. Great seafood and the brown bread was also some of the best we had in Ireland. My husband and I both loved the seafood chowder - very fresh seafood, very tasty. Fish and chips the best we've ever had! One of... more

Did some research on tripadvisor before visiting and so glad we did. On arrival the decor looked very dated so we were a bit apprehensive. The staff was very friendly and our dishes arrived quickly. We had ordered sardines, whitebait, seafood chowder and mushroom filled with crab, spinach and eggplant. The seafood chowder was ordinary but the other dishes were... more

Wonderful seafood. We called and made a reservation, when we arrived they had the window seat waiting for us. It was a sunny day in Howth so before we went, we walked all around taking in the beautiful scenery. We were lucky to catch the seals right across the street from the Oar House. The service was great, but the... more

Look, just because it's Ireland, doesn't mean a restaurant has to serve beer, that's asinine. Let's keep it simple, from the actual outward view of the place, you wouldn't get the impression that their food would be anything more than maybe going to a Red Lobster. Decor a little generic, hostesses badly dressed, the layout overall would just not make... more

In Dublin recently and took a 25 min. train ride (DART) to Howth. It is a small seaside harbor town with a lot of charm. I had been told to look for two restaurants, one of which was Oar House. It was well above average. I arrived late afternoon (which allowed me to order from the Early Bird menu). The... more
