You simply have to experience this place. Get here well before opening at lunch, jostle with the Time Out tourists but try and sit next to the locals who come here to eat what is simply amazing, freshly prepared in front of you, catalan food. Emphasis on seafood. Spanish useful but dont let that put you off. Not cheap but... more

We were a bit daunted when we first walked into this place; It's tiny, there's no menu anywhere and the line-up was substantial (1 hour +). However we're glad we stuck around and ended up eating here twice during our vacation. There were about 10 wait staff behind the tiny counter, all operating quickly, in multiple languages, and making recommendations... more

Went here from reading reviews and wasn't disappointed. We had to queue to get in for 7.30pm (yes we ate early on last night). The food was great although we felt slightly rushed because there was a queue of people waiting for a seat less than 2 feet behind us along the back wall. The deal - you take a... more

We just returned from 3 weeks in Spain, 1 of them in Barcelona. Cal Pep was the best meal of the trip. So good, that I snuck back the next day while wife was shopping to have the clams again. Unforgettable. The suggestion on one of the posts here that Inopia compares is laughable. We went to Inopia the night... more

The squid and beans were amazing as was the sausage. Great friendly service. Good wine and beer. Great seafood. Crowded and a line, but worth the wait. My mouth is watering, wish I was there now! more

A real experience for a tapas diner and it is excellent and fair value. A long queue outside for a 1pm opening and as the counter fills up, queuers line up behind, many with a complimentary beer. Great fun. Work up your appetite beforehand by visiting the excellent Museu d'Historia de Catalunya nearby in Placa de Pau Vila. Housed in... more

Visited Cal Pep on 7 October. If you fail to arrive within10 minutes of opening (7.30 pm) be prepared to wait 45-60 mins in the queue which forms at the bar (possibly it gets quieter later in the evening). Cal Pep was horrendously busy but the 'maitre d' is only too willing to suggest plates of tapas - the only... more

I wanted to like Cal Pep, I really did. We made our pilgrimage to Barcelona as I'm a huge tapas fan and was so excited to eat at this legendary tapas restaurant that once made it on the Top 50 Best Restaurants in the World list. We got there early at 7pm, about 30 minutes before the scheduled opening time,... more

You have heard about the dreaded line - well, it moves fast and it is so worth it. It truly is dinner and a show as you sit at the bar facing the kitchen watching the awesome chefs do their magic. Make friends with your neighbors and chat with you tour guide - otherwise known as your waiter - who... more

Not sure what most people are expecting, Nowhere in any thing i have read does it say Cal Pep is cheap, just the best ...and as far as "tapas" goes it most certainly is by a long shot. Find somewhere where you get the freshest produce, prepared freshly for you right in front of your eyes and so delicious. The... more
