Given the great reviews we expected more. My bucatini amatricianna was very good, but everything else; including the gricia, fried artichoke, and a roasted veal dish, was mediocre or worse. more

I had read about Matricianella as a good place for traditional Roman cuisine, so booked a table on a Friday night of a long-weekend trip to Rome. It was a warm September evening and we were a little disappointed not to get a table outside, but from then on everything went swimmingly. I had Rigatoni pajata, which might seem a... more

Let's start with some general guidelines for dining in Roma: Whenever a restaurant is packed and waiters are frantically serving other customers and you do not speak the language, most likely you will be ignored -unless you: 1) frantically call the waiter (scusa ragazzo) or as many italians do 2) you leave the restaurant. Service and eating pace throughout Italy... more

I read in some reviews of this restaurant that customers have been disappointed by the appetizers. How is that possible. One of the best places in Rome for filetti di baccala' and carciofi alla giudea; only Gigetto al Portico d'Ottavia and Piperno compare. The Roman classics - abbacchio, coratella, rigatoni con la pajata - are just superb. The wine list... more

Our travel book was listing it among other restaurants, emphasizing that it was the place where Roman were going to eat real Roman cuisine. We tried, it was packed, no reservation. The owner told us to come back 30min later and she worked a table for us. The... more

6of us all American, all involved in the food industry ,were excited to snag a reservation at Matricinella. We sat down at 8 PM, ordered a great bottle of wine, starters and pasta and some secondi. The appetizers arrived after 9 PM; our table was ignored... as we watched tables with Italians who were seated after us get coffee before... more

The range of reviews for this restaurant has got to be confusing to the reader. On our first visit, we would agree with the negative reviews of the service. The food, however, was so good that we returned the next night when we were greeted like long lost relatives. The fact about this place is that it is a very... more

It was closed on 1 May so we missed it... We tried again on 2 May and it was fully booked till 10pm... Didn't get to try it but if the crowd there was anything to go by (and the thickness of the wine list), this place must be good (hence the rating)!!! more

I pre-booked both Matricianella in advance of a special trip to Rome for my Mother and myself. We love to visit authentic good restaurants and I am always browsing the superb Trip Advisor Forums for recommendations on where to go and what to do - it's a fab website. So when we arrived at Matricianella for a meal on our... more
