Bologna isn’t just about “cibo bolognese”, there is a deep reservoir of excellent restaurants of all levels and f every part of Italy, just waiting to b discovered. And these are everywhere - you’ve probably walked past them without noticing ! Da Maro is one...of these, Sicilian and seafood centric, it’s a bit out of the way but we’ll worth the 10 minute walk. Small, welcoming, with excellent dishes, and very very happy-making . As to what to get, it’s all good - take your cues from the staff if you have any doubts - they won’t lead you wrong!More

On a mid-week night in early May we had the restaurant to ourselves and a very pleasant waitress. The seafood was excellent and we enjoyed the dinner that evening. We would go back again if/when in Bologna.

Was excited to find a good Sicilian restaurant in Bologna. The seafood was fresh and well-prepared. The service was super-friendly and the wine was perfect. Would certainly go back here again.

We went to Da Maro for their Valentine's Day dinner and it was really delicious. We tried a number of things we've never had before that were a bit of a challenge but so good - pistachio-crusted sardines, and canocchia (mantis shrimp) carpaccio were two...new dishes for us that were very exciting! Top notch service, excellent staff and ambience, and delicious food made for a very special meal. If this is what Sicily is like, we look forward to going there next!More

Amazing homemade pasta. Ate outside and owner was very accommodating with a clear passion for his food, and in English on top of that

After having tried this little, but super cozy seafood restaurant, which is located in a very narrow and typical street of the Bologna historical city center, I can definitely tell you that is probably one of the best in the city to have some fresh...and beautifully served fish. The menu is very rich and the dish offered are really many. You can select between starters, first courses and second courses as we tipyally do in Italy. I have chosen as starter the Arancini, also known as rice ball, and I have to say they were perfectly prepared and cooked in the right way. I recommend eventually also the anchovies marinated and prepared on a pumpkin bed sauce. Then my friends went for the "cavatielli", which is a typical kind of short pasta with a very full mixture of seafood sauce with claims and mussel. I went instead for the Tuna steaks which to be honest was superbly made! we finished with a delicious Sicilian cannolo to share. As wine we had a very very good Grecio di Tufo which I recommend to you. The location is also fantastic, very warm and cozy and also the waiters and the owner have been extremely kind and nice in several times. The final price was of course not cheap, but definitely honest and correct based on what we had and to the fantastic quality and freshness of the food we had.More

We were surprised to find there do not seem to be that many seafood restaurants in Bologna. This one was rated highly, and relatively close to our hotel, on the east side of Bologna. Good food! I found the spaghetti with sardines (primo piatto) delicious...if a little heavy. The spaghetti was a little al dente for my taste, and I am not sure if this is favored by the Italians. I had an octopus for the secondo piatto - excellent.More

This was a small Sicilian restaurant hidden away outside of the main city, but still only a 15 min walk. Don’t be put off by the rustic interior, this is part of the charm. The staff were incredible, all the menus were Italian and they...patiently translated everything for us. Food was faultless, everything incorporates the freshest sea food with amazing specials of the day. If you like sea food and looking for somewhere authentic this is the place for youMore

I went to Da Maro on a local friend’s recommendation and had the best culinary experience so far in Bologna. I had a fennel salad and their squid pasta and it’s honestly the best I’ve had here. So recommendable!! On top of that, the place...was really cozy and the service very friendly! Go go goMore

It is very good fish restaurant. It is simple, cozy and very good fish and seafood. Good service. As menu was only in Italian and don’t speak Italian, waitress was very helpful with translation. Highly recommend that place. Needs to make reservation.

A cosy little hidden restaurant serving seafood specialities from Sicily. Good quality, good choice fresh fare at fairly reasonable prices. Playing virgin radio as background music however needs to be reconsidered as this adds nothing to the ambiance - in fact it affects it detrimentally....Steady restaurant worth a visit however there may be better ...More

My wife and I ate lunch at Da Maro at the recommendation of a friend. It was our first haut cuisine Italian restaurant. She ordered the tuna and I ordered sea bass. We started with seafood arancini which were delicious and definitely seafood, but hard...to say exactly which fish or other seafood. Her tuna was waved over the grill and essentially raw and served with a pesto like sauce. My sea bass was served over a sauce I could not identify, maybe something like a local pepper puree? We shared a coffee cream and a cannolo for dessert. We ordered a bottle of Sicilian pro secco for the meal. The service was excellent and our waiter gave us excellent advice in making selections.More

Visited with high expectations based on previous reviews. It was a pleasure. The service was really good and engaging (including recommendations for future holiday destinations in Puglia!). The food was equally wonderful - fresh and imaginative. Put it on your list to visit - it...didn't disappoint us.More
