We had a fantastic time there on december 21. We stumbled across the place by chance and had the best meal of our whole stay in venice. At the the end of the meal we got talking with the owner, Mauro, and friends of his. They sat down with us and we ended up drinking a few more bottles of... more

We visited La Mascareta twice on Dec 18-19 after reading the glowing reviews here on TripAdvisor. What a disappointment. We arrived late (2345) on the 18th and decided to try to grab dinner because we'd read they served through 0200. We were served a delicious house red (Chianti) and then our waiter disappeared. When we caught him 45 minutes later... more

Having read the enthusiastic reviews on Tripadvisor (which I usually find very reliable) perhaps I was expecting too much of this place. Perhaps it is easier to be absorbed in the atmosphere if you speak Italian (I don't). Perhaps I was too early (just after 7.30). Whatever the reason, the service was OK but not particularly warm or fiendly. The... more

We had a great night in this Osteria even if it was crowded and the waiters didn't have much time to dedicate to the guests. The food was great quality and the wine was good for the price. It is not the typical touristic place and that's an added value. You can also stop by for a glass of wine... more

We found it! It was not easy but after a long search on the internet and through our wedding organiser we stumbled upon a youtube video of a mustached guy (Mauro) opening Champagne bottles with a Napoleonic sword! So we thought that even if the food and drinks will not be up to the par, at least our wedding would... more

Fantastic service, food, atmosphere and not a tourist in sight.. Bellissimo! We stumbled across La Mascareta by chance and it was the best evening we had in Venice in 4 days. The excentric owner Mauro represents everything his restaurant is. The food was delicious and authentic. The anti pasti starter for 2 a very generous portion and so appetizing. Spagetti... more

I'm worried about recommending this restaurant as it's the sort of place you want to keep to yourself so it doesn't get spoilt but considering we booked on the back of the reviews on trip advisor I feel I must share what a wonderful place La Mascareta is. It is in a small alley that you would probably walk past... more

We ate there two nights ago. The service was horrible. Don't know who we asked if we could get a table for four instead of two (we were willing to eat without our friends if they could not accomodate us), instead the individual at the door was really outraged. We slunk to the table and continued to wait for 20... more

Having heard a lot about La Mascareta on TripAdvisor, we went there twice in a row on September the 28th and the 29th. On the first night, we tried all sorts of wines which, to be honest, were excellent. Slightly hungry, we shared a copious plate of very tasty local products (meats & cheeses) served with different breads. We also... more
