Above the best bar inside the city walls, a very good restaurant - probably second only to the Buca di Sant'Antonio - with really friendly service in a comfortable pair of dining rooms. Each year we are in Italy we try to spend time in Lucca, and have gotten to know the owners of the Palazzo Alexander, and now Stella Polare. The location of this restaurant is wonderful, especially if you can book a table outside during one of the concerts in Piazza Napoleone. Tthe food is excellent and the staff are friendly... more

If you book room only when staying in Lucca breakfast in The Stella Polare Bar is a must. I breakfasted there Oct 3 and Oct 4 and would have done so again on the Sunday if it was open. The staff are delighful and the manageress has a good knowledge of english. Their freshly pressed orange juice is delicious to... more

Right off the main Napoleon square, totally refurbished in style, quaint dinning area inside, and the weather the next day allowed us to eat outside. Typical local food with waitresse that did actually speak the three languages of our goup, a rather unique factor for Italy. Food well presented, and prices in the norm.
