I've read in guide books and been told by friends that the only place worth visiting on Rue des Bouchers is Aux Armes de Bruxelles. Unfortunately, from my experience here last week, I would say this is the epitome of a tourist trap. First of all, we were crammed in like sardines, with the back of my chair touching the... more

We had table 225 in Ronde room (which was more private than mose). Felt wonderfully dated - decor, service, food. But that made it special, as not the sort of place we usually eat. However, sole was too hot, beef stew too sweet - and champagne and pouilly fume by the glass were really poor. Nontheless we enjoyed it -... more

OK, it's mainly for tourists but the food is pretty good and the starched linens and formal service are welcome throwbacks of more cultured times in the past. It's a Brussels institution serving a wide range of Belgian food. more

This is one of the few restaurants in its area that doesn't employ people to catch tourists and travelers walking in front of it. It's not cheap, but the value/price ratio is good. Waiters are unusually and pleasantly friendly by Brussels standards, they're fast at serving while keeping a smile notwithstanding the understandable stress given the amount of customers. There... more

We opted fior the fixed price menu of 47 euros and were delighted with the four courses offered (save for the cheese course). The fish soup starter was superb followed by excellent oysters and shrimp croquettes. I had the skate in black butter whilst my partner had the three fish with three different sauces both cooked to a high standard.... more

Despite reservations about restaurants in such tourist traps as Rue des Bouchers we allowed a recommendation from our hotel to over-ride them. This was a mistake. We went mid-afternoon, so the place was quiet as expected (only two other tables in use) , and the initial impression is quite a good one of a quaint old traditional restaurant. However, we... more

I had a late Christmas Eve dinner here with my family, and as you might have expected, the restaurant was full. The food, when it came, was good but not memorable. The service, however, was unbelievably slow. The waiters were perfectly pleasant, but we waited for what seemed to be hours between each course. I have been here several times... more

Imagine you went to an "old style" European regional restaurant. Stodgy, solid, but tasteful decor. Local cuisine expertly prepared, much of it "finished" at tableside by waiters who know the food, the menu and the wine list. It is just cool, to watch your food sauced au beurre and plated in front of you. Brings me back to the days... more

Travelled to Brussels on a day trip to the Christmas Markets and re-booked a table for eight for lunch. A good job I did it was completely full of many Belgian people as oppose to tourists which was a surprise. We had a set four course meal with wine for eight which came to about 42 euros per perpsn. The... more
