Reasonably priced food and wine. The view of the square and church are a lovely setting for a romantic meal.
I'm a vegetarian, and very specifically ordered a cheese crepe (just about the only thing from the menu I could eat). When it came, it had ham in it. Disgusting, from my point of view. Not all that charmed by the ambience or the friendliness of staff either.
Food was ok, but they charged 3 euros for a starter we never asked for and they "offered" 2 minutes after we were sit down. Look around there are better cheaper alternatives within few meters
The staff and food are one in a million! Excellent all the way around - The Cataplana Algar was something new for me and I thought it was most flavorful. The atmosphere was very relaxing and staff very friendly. Next time I visit Portugal I will be back!
Nice restaurant in the old town beside the old tower. We had eaten Parma ham with melon and scallops. It was really fresh and very tasty. Also local wine served in iced glass was very good and price was reasonable.
Just had a fabulous lunch today at this restaurant. My wife and I share a plate of grilled Dorada (otherwise known as golden sea bream). This was cooked to perfection. The restaurant is in Faro's old town right next to a church and has a great outside seating area. Another great plus point is the very clean toilets. Next time... More
Initially put off by the ghastly photos of the dishes I was pleasantly surprised: lovely food, fair prices, excellent service, extremely clean, great menu and wine menu. I had the most exquisite squids in my life and my friend had a delicious "robalo". Vegetables very well cooked. Planalto wine at the right temperature in lovely cool glasses and cooling bucket... I'm a regular at this restaurant, for more than 10 years...and stunned with some comments i've seen here. Cidade Velha is one of the most pleasant places to eat in the city, typical portuguese food, attentive and helpful service, the owner is an educated gentleman, highly professional. Excellent quality/price ratio, and locattion must be recomended !
Four of us had lunch one day when visiting historic Faro. Lots of local dishes on the menu and can recommend the delicious sardines. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were lots of locals eating and that is usually a good sign. Can recommend. Special thanks to the owner for helping us out in the rain.
We picked this restaurant partly due to the location, beside the fort and overlooking the water -normally risky for the food quality. However we were really pleasantly surprised. Great food, gorgeous presentation, waiters were extremely helpful and pleasant. Best place we ate at in Funchal
