Had dinner there late May and had just dined at French laundry the week before. Have to say the Belcanto was on par with every aspect of fine dinning. Service was impeccable and the food was excellent. I am in the wine business and your...servers were wonderful about there choices of wine for us.More

i had such a lovely experience here, it's not one i will soon forget. i dined alone, doing the chef's menu with wine pairing. the service was attentive without being overbearing, took great care in the finer details. they were prompt to answer any questions...i had and the food was paced well. the wines were interesting and well chosen - i perhaps would i have liked one additional glass of red (very white heavy) and perhaps the inclusion or option of a port, though the madiera was a lovely touch to begin. the food was thoughtful, well presented, and a great blend of traditional and modern. i won't hestiate to return! i also had a very easy experience making & changing my reservations - i don't speak any portuguese (besides obrigado!), but emails were prompt and clear. absolutely recommend.More

A frustrating culinary experience that completely fails your tastebuds and wallet. We were excited to do the full chefs menu at 250 euros that turned out to be three hour journey inundated by several little “taste moments”, a few disappointing “mains” and very mediocre desserts....First things first…service here is Michelin star attentive, no shortages of plate and silverware changes but that is to be expected. Venue is on the smaller side which is fine. Nothing of the interior decor is worth noting and quite ordinary for a typical mid-to-upscale restaurant. Let’s start with the most memorable parts of the meals: an inedible sea bass with clams that was probably more salty than ocean water, an awful textured squab meatloaf stuffed made even more unappealing with a contrasting foie gras, an undercooked curry prawn, and an embarrassingly runny egg dressed with gold flakes and truffle oil. How any of this got not one but two Michelin stars absolutely baffles me. Everything else - carrot “a few ways” salad, tuna tartare served in an oyster shell (ridiculous), passion fruit sorbet is all child’s play for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. One shining star of the meal was a lobster Caesar salad with delicious tomato ice that was unique and worthy of praise. After closer inspection of the reviews, a few have had similar negative feelings. The two tables next us didn’t finish several courses whereas we stomached through the whole thing to give them a chance. You should save your money and time - people giving this five stars are either drinking the “top 50 in the world” kool-aid or this place is on its way down from former glory.More

We had the chefs table experience and then you hope that you will be blown away! The food is very nice but is served in a very high pace so you will be done with your 10 course dinner in 2.5 hours The price is...very high ( €250) in comparison to other Michelin restaurants and in my opinion not worth the nr 42 position on the worlds best restaurants list. The pairing wines are good but only one zip paired with the dish is very scanty for the very high price range !( €150) So all in all a nice experience but I won’t do it again for this price range !More

We first dined at Belcanto a few years ago when it was at the old location and have watched it progress ever since. So it was with great excitement that I planned to go back for my 40th birthday. I made a reservation for two,...but our flight on TAP airline from the States got cancelled. I emailed them to let them (and had my hotel call them ), and see if we can move the reservation to the day after. Not only did they not respond they had the nerve to charge me the full cost of two tasting menus! Firstly, a flight cancellation that I offered to show proof of is obviously beyond my control. Secondly I know they will fill the table. So basically it shows that greed is more important to them as a business rather than building a loyal base of customers. I’ve dined at multiple Michelin stared restaurants around the world and this is a real disappointment from Belcanto. As if getting the flight cancelled wasn’t bad enough.More

My husband and I feel very lucky to have experienced this fabulous restaurant. We had seats at the chefs table and were taken care of by the most extraordinary Nelson. Nelson supplied not just the food but an attitude and aura of perfection. He was...so delightful! The meal was also some of the best fine dining we have ever tasted. As we have been to Le Bernadin, The French Laundry, Atelier Cren and Alinea (to mention a few) we thought this was among the best. The entire 13 "moments" as dear Nelson stated, were worth every bite. The only "problem" with the evening was when the Pastry chef apparently got mad at Nelson. Since we don't speak Portuguese we had no idea what happened. Unfortunately the pastry chef could not let it go and proceded to keep ranting at the other side of the kitchen in full view of our site line. This didn't ruin our night but it did affect us. I am writing this review to recommend this restaurant but also to give my sincere regards to Nelson who I think is one of the best in the industry. I wish he was at a restaurant here in San Francisco so I could go visit regularly.More

We enjoyed the Evolution Menu of 14 courses paired with a wine menu of 8 Portuguese wines. The food was imaginative and innovative with a tremendously high level of technical skill. For example, the European lobster "Caesar salad" with avocado, tomato water and yuzu and...truffle emulsion, was the most extraordinary version of a Caesar salad I've tasted. The service was perfect, professional, friendly and knowledgeable.More

We were fortunate to be able to book the Chef's Table. And the Chef was hands on. Fun to watch the food being prepared and the staff responding "yes chef" with every order. Food was delicious, inventive and fun. Service was excellent. This is a...restaurant not to be missed if you want to experience the best of the best.More
