Jango was by far the very best restaurant I have ever gone to. I have gone there many times with collegues and the food is simply out of this world. I have travelled somewhat and have I never encountred so many difrente varieties at a very reasonable price. It is small restaurant but has a heck of lot of quality.... more

This restaurant is located at Santa Maria Street at the end of Old town, so it was a little difficult to get there from the tourist zone, but it was worth of it! All the food is very fresh, flavored with garlic. We had an espada (so goooooood! A must if you visit the island), espetada (not bad, but in... more

This restaurant was boring and uninspiring in every way. The interior was cramped and dull. The service fulfilled the minimum one could expect and nothing more. The food was competent, but quite uninspiring in its flavours and execution. So on the whole while not a bad experience in any way I can't think of any reason I'd want to go... more

A very popular restaurant in the Old town. Positives: a mix of locals and tourists. Good portions, variety, and local flavours. I had grilled limpets or 'lapas' (a traditional dish) served in their shells with lavish amounts of garlic butter and parsley. They were delicious. Another famous local dish is Espada fish with bananas, which was also very nice. Be... more

This little restaurant in the old town was full every night, and the night we went we had a delicious meal. It's fairly basic and the tables are quite close, but it didn't seem intrusive. The service was a bit brash, although efficient . The menu is extensive and the bill was very reasonable. We would recomment this restaurant, especially... more

A recommendation from this site and a friend - great value food - good portions, superbly cooked - paella and fish stew. I think a lot was in the quality of the underlying stock. Reasonable drink prices. If you are garlic averse.....don't! Will go back when I go back to Madeira. We visited twice. more

Would you like to eat the best grilled squids (Lulas Grelhadas) on Madeira Island? Be sure to visit the restaurant Marisa / O Jango in Funchal in this case. The restaurant is sitauted in the Old Town (Zona Velha), in a side street, called Rua Santa Maria. The restaurant is very pleasant and the most important ... you will enjoy... more

We'd read a glowing review of O Jango in the Cadogan Madeira guidebook, and reserved a table on the strength of this. When we arrived at the restaurant we were astonished to see the seating arrangements in the restaurant. All the chairs and tables are packed so close together it would be impossible to have any private conversation. I'm of... more

There are many restaurants in the old town offering similar menus and prices. This, for us, was the pick of the bunch. Service was prompt if a little brusque. The quality of the food however was what made it stand out. We had the best tomato and onion soup in town, fish was fresh and the beef was cooked exactly... more
