My Wife & I visited Riso recently and had a very disappointing experience. We both suspected that the fish served to us was not fresh, and when we questioned it were fobbed off with some lame excuse. The following day our suspicions were unfortunately not unfounded, as we both had upset stomachs. Never again!! more

Planning to return to the Old Town in Funchal to find a restaurant for lunch we came across this one opposite Igreja de Santa Maria Maior. We were 6 on the table and everybody enjoyed the meal. However it seems that the risotti are much better than the portuguese rices. All they have is rice or made with rice. The place is very nice with a view to the sea. Can recommend this restaurant to anyone. more

I only had lunch here so I cannot comment on the dinner. That being said lunch was great. Far better than most of the tourist traps further down the streets. Sure it was slightly more money and slightly smaller portions, but given the higher quality food that was fine by me, especially given the magnificent view from their terrace. So... more

Food nice and different (all rice dishes including desserts) but overpriced given the quantity. I had the grilled cod and only 3 small bits lost in a big plate. Situation is superb overlooking the sea on the cliff edge and I guess you are paying for the view. Wine very pricey too. more
