Olives is a family run restaurant in the middle of Funchal. The food is local, fresh fish, vegeatables and fruit plus a very naughty chocolate cake. The wines are well chosen, reasonable priced and excellently kept. The only venue in Funchal for a light lunch or evening dinner more

Last week we came back from Madeira where we had very good experiences with food. One of those addreesses was Olives, near the Cathedral. Food was good. The espada was not very tender, but sardines, salmon and filet mignon were great. We went there twice and the service of the three brothers was very nice. The second time I lost... more

Olives is the best restaurant in Funchal. This may sound like a sweeping statement, but after visiting no less than 18 restaurants during our two-week stay on the island (we ate out every lunch and dinner) we can safely say this place is the very best - for both quality of food and value for money. On top of that,... more

We had a lovely meal at Olives. After almost a week of enjoying traditional Madeiran cuisine it was nice to find somewhere with some different menu options (other than Chinese/Indian or Italian). The three brothers who own Olives used to live in England and have done a great job offering something a bit different and great value. We were lucky... more

Happened upon this place having decided to bail out on a trip to Ruivo after the rain got too heavy to see out of the hier cars windscreen. We came down a very tortuous old road into Prazeres (it´s near Calheta) looking for the coast road. Opposite a beautiful 18C church with a large functioning apple press in its grounds... more

Nice atmosphere but struggled to cope with 18 covers. Food bland. Their version of Scabbard Fish not as good as others. A bit pricey more

We had dinner here twice and lunch once. Not the cheapest place to eat (nor the dearest) but certainly everything of the highest quality from the service, food and ambience. This is a family run restaurant (with 'Olives Too' in the Old Town also in the family) and English is spoken. The wine was also excellent. We wouldn't hesitate to... more

I must say that having had dinner in the restaurant as well as Lunch I found it to be one of the most friendly restaurants in Funchal, the staff where polite and attentive and food was fresh and home made. I would recomend it to any one who may visit Funchal. more

A charming little restaurant in the old town. Two very friendly waiters make the dining experience very enjoyable. The food we chose was very good especially the sardines. All the food is freshly cooked and uncomplicated. The sauces come in their own seperate boat so you can choose if you want sauce or not. The chocolate pudding is heavenly!! a... more

We visited this restaurant twice during our recent trip to Madeira. The brothers are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I would agree that the menu is limited but the food is delicious and portions are adequate - some of the restaurants we visited presented much larger plates of food but not of the quality at Olives and... more
