This restaurant has wonderful food. It´s a restaurant mostly for tourists it seems that none of the patrons were locals, but the food is very well done. The lamb was very tasty and cooked to perfection. It is within walking distance of most hotels in Funchal and also from the city center. Average décor. Service is good. more

Dona Amelia was the best of the many good restaurants we visited during my week in Madeira. So good in fact we ate there twice. Their food, which can be described as Italian with local influences, was executed perfectly every time I was there. And their prices, while certainly not among the cheapest, can only be described as a bargain... more

Situated in a quiet part of town in an old building, this upstairs restaurant is very pleasant; staff are welcoming and friendly, the table settings, etc, and ambiance are very good. Depending on what you choose from the menu, you can have a reasonably priced meal or you could have an expensive meal! The portions could have been a little... more

Certainly very good for choice, service and most of all value and deserves at least a visit (we went twice). Finding good places to eat is tricky and I'm afraid customer reviews don't really help (see Solar da Ajuda sitting at the top and if you agree with me...it's not really a number 1 restaurant)...but believe me when I say... more

This was definatly not one of our top restaurants. I found the food fairly plain and did not come up to the standard acclaimed in the reviews. The service was very good and the restaurant was immaculate but the food was pretentious. The BEST restaurant we ate at on the island was VILA DE PEIXE in Camara de Lodos. It... more

We ate at this restaurant three times in eight days. True, it was 2 minutes on foot from our hotel, which was the reason we first ate there. But we went back twice, including our last evening, because the food was delicious and the staff welcoming and just so professional whether young or middle-aged. We watched one of the waiters... more

Thank you Tripadvisor for this find. On the first night of our holiday (February/March 2009) we went in search of Dona Amelia as it was picking up good reviews for a local cuisine restaurant in the Hotel zone. We tracked it down and were greeted by friendly staff that prepared our table and thereafter looked after us very well. We... more
