Everything about this places screams authentic local cuisine. It's not fancy but it seems very popular with both tourists and locals. We were seated on stools at long wooden tables. Lobster stew served with fresh bread was very satisfying (especially after a freezing cold day of sight seeing). Fish tastes fresh from the ocean. Prices were decent for great quality... more

I was expecting something simple & authentic. The tiny place's very basic indeed but the food isn't good nor cheap. We ordered the cod fish, scallop and whale skewers and all taste bad. The meat isn't fresh. The taste's either too plain or too salty. The whale tasted horrible. The famous lobster soup's way overrated. The place isn't even clean.... more

We stumbled upon this little place after finishing the whale watching tour. It is very very basic inside. It has 2 fridges which have fresh fish in that are wrapped up and you pass them to the person on the till who takes them and cooks them there and then. I had the lobster soup and crusty bread and it... more

I didn't enjoy the lobster soup. Don't expect some sort of creamy lobster bisque. Its more of a tomato based lobster soup. In my soup, there were three medium-sized chunks of lobster in the soup. The bread is great, the butter is the same quality you get in all Icelandic restaurants (excellent). The portions for the soup aren't shareable. Ambiance... more

We ate here to celebrate my wife's birthday. We arrived around 5pm and were the only patrons in the restaurant. The counter staff were very friendly and helpful. We selected two lobster soups (they no longer use styrofoam but now use glass bowls) that came with a bottomless basket of bread, and a cod and a halibut kebab. The kebabs... more

It's really difficult to give a correct review of the Saegreiffin. You have to go. Don't expect anything fancy - it's really simple, but it's fantastic to taste the lobster soup and the whale-on-a-stick. more

Having seen the reviews, this place has been much raved by primarily tourists. Likewise I paid a visit, but was quite disappointed. Food was edible but not cheap for what they offer (skwers) and would definitely better places to eat. more

Upon our arrival in Reykjavik, I decided to eat here and see what all the fuss was about. Fuss away Iceland, this place met my expectations. Tasting their famous lobster soup for the first time was a religious experience. So the place has the ambiance of a dilapidated garage but once you taste the fish, all is forgiven. Fellow readers,... more

Went for a bowl of lobster soup as an early lunch before the blue lagoon trip. Delicious and reasonably priced. I didn't try a kebab though. more
