Went here on the suggestion of someone who lived in Vienna. Very traditional, EXCELLENT coffee. You could almost imagine what it was like when it first opened in the 1930's and what it must have been like during the war years. They make their own cakes. Very tasty. Worth a visit if you want to see real Vienna. more

Whenever I am in Vienna, I have to go to the venerable and time-worn Café Hawelka, a true cultural institution in the heart of Vienna's posh first district. Sorry to say but it is really a dump. Service at best indifferent and the ambiance like in a third-rate village pub. Maybe it is a "classic" but if you want to experience a real classic Viennese cafe there are scores around: Oberlaa, Sacher, Mozart more
