The starter and main courses were not up to to the standard I was led to expect by either reviews or the price. Not bad, but I've had much better for the price elsewhere. The cooking is unpretentious and based on their local market garden, so the fresh vegetables were very good. I had belly pork from a rare breed - Gloucestor old spot I think. Tasteful decor and appointments. Food nothing to write home about and owners not that obliging, felt like we were keeping them up as we had drinks after dinner. Got the impression that patronising southerners had come up north to try and teach us a thing or two, they didn't teach us a thing or impress us. more
I would recommend this restaurant most highly. It will appeal to anyone who is looking for cooking of a high order at reasonable cost. The restaurant itself is, it is true, in a rather out of the way spot, in Golcar, close to Milnsbridge just off the A62 out of Huddersfield towards Manchester. But it is well worth seeking out.... more
