Everything about the experience of dining at the Blue Ball is always a pleasure. This was about the sixth time we had been and it is the place we recommend to anyone looking for a top quality place to eat out at a reasonable price. The Blue Ball is a quaint ancient building with a number of cosy interconnecting rooms in... Held my 65th and retirement party for 17 of us at The Blue Ball recently. Dominic, the landlord was his usual welcoming self. We are locals who eat there regularly and were able to pre-order for most of the meals. The meal was memorable and the service was excellent as usual. Michael Prescott, who is the main chef, is a... We were looking forward to a Saturday night out with friends combined with good food. The pub is very appealing inside with feeling very much like the period establishment it is, you know the thing - exposed beams, open fires etc. The staff seem friendly enough but the fly in the ointment was the food which did not live up... This is a gem of a country pub. Its delicious food, wonderful wine & beer, quaint thatched roof, wooden beams, open fires, candle-lit tables and friendly, helpful staff make this the perfect place for lunch, dinner, a post-walk drink or an afternoon with the paper in front of a log fire. I'll definitely be coming back! More

We thoroughly enjoyed Sunday lunch - the food was fab and the service was wonderful. Open fires and comfy sofas make this a great place to hang out after a walk in the country. You must go!! More

We believe we were the first family to be offered their newly developed Young Diners menu and so were asked for honest feedback, which I know they are responding to because olive bread became 'plain white bread, no bits for most kids' by the main course with breadcrumbed chicken, chips in a little silver pail with a handle that my... We arrived at the Blue Ball (16 in number) and were greeted with a frendly and warm welcome. Having been given a room for our party we enjoyed excellent food from pheasant to suet pudding. Great day left at 4.00pm; kept the staff on for an hour after closing time, (sorry) but this made for a memorable day out. Many... More

The Blue Ball is a lovely country village pub - the greeting was warm and friendly, the food ok though under-seasoned for me and lamb over-cooked. We are spoiled in this area with so many lovely pubs offering, I believe, better value than this one. More

Visited this place for the first time with my girlfriend. The atmosphere is both warm and inviting together with a great character about the place. The food is beautiful, well presented, well cooked and flavours that work very well. The Chef here clearly has talent and we will be back again for more of the same. Well done and we... More

We'd heard great things about The Blue Ball but their mention in the Times Travel pages the other weekend as the place to eat out in Rutland galvanised us into getting round to booking. I think we'd hesitated before because we weren't at all sure that a party of five, including grandma, and two under fives would be genuinely welcome... More
