This was a quaint and intimate small restaurant run by a couple who had lived Latin and South America. I had Eschebecha Pescado, fish coated in rice flour then pan fried in olive oil and garlic served with smoked red peppers, capers, spanish green olives...and onion. It was excellent. I also had a salad with cubed potatoes, lettuce and a fabulous dressing. My wife had Taquitos with beef, carmelized onions, cheese, salsa and pickled jalapenos and she had a Batatas y credo - sweet potato cakes topped with beer braised pulled pork and rum inspired slaw. Fantastic meal. Great service, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive.More
Great Latin American food. Very cozy. Only seats around 20 people. You absolutely have to reserve here. We saw two couples turned away because the restaurant was fully booked for the evening. Run by the owners. He cooks; she serves. Definitely go here if you're...in Rotoruam but book it well ahead of time.More
Service and food was amazing. Best service we have had so far in Rotorua. You guys are a fabulous team! Food was excellent.
During our stay in Rotorua we ate here twice it is that good. A short menu which is good as everything is done really well. Cocktails are excellent. Sarah makes a mean Margarita! Highly recommended.
Every mouthful was a taste sensation. Definitely returning here... again and again. All three of us were impressed. Exceptional food and service.
Great atmosphere and the food is outstanding. The Chef and manager Sarah were very friendly. Would definitely return!
Outstanding food, it tasted fresh and as a vegetarian it was great to have a good choice of meals. The service was amazing, so much knowledge about the food. definitely worth a visit
We promised to post a review months ago, so will keep it short and sweet: everything was impeccable, from the ambience to the service to the food. As locals we will definitely be back again soon.
We thought the food and service was very good. I had the Eschebeche and a salad. My wife had the pulled pork with vegetables and potatoes.
The chef is called The Chimichanga Man for a reason. These pastry chicken, cheese filled parcels are the best. Everything I have eaten here is amazing. Served with love and passion for their food. Best mango/passion margheritas too. Thanks guys.
Sabroso has been my favourite Rotorua restaurant since it opened more than 10 years ago, and everyone I've ever introduced the restaurant to also leaves a massive fan. The food is fresh, authentic and simply fantastic. Must-tries are the chicken or mushroom chimichangas, they're just...divine!! They're soooo d@mn good I have a hard time ordering anything else. If you love a margarita on the rocks, Sabroso makes the best margaritas anywhere!!! To top all this off, the service is always friendly, efficient and perfectly attentive. Do yourself a favour and book in now! You won't be disappointed!!More
Intimate little restaurant serving the best Latin and Carribean food this side of the Pacific! Fresh vibrant and authentic fare cooked by John and served by Sarah. Delicious food and great margaritas makes an unforgettable dining experience.
We recently dined in a group of 6 and I cannot speak highly enough about the food, service and general atmosphere. Sarah and John were very welcoming, the service was amazing and the food top notch. I travel around NZ frequently and Sabroso is on...par with some of the best I have eaten, will 100% be back.More
We plan to come to Rotorua to have a meal at Sabroso, as it is our favourite in the country. We were again not disappointed!! The evening starts with a friendly welcome & then the cocktails begin. He had margaritas & I had a caipirinha...& a pisco sour. They are all great! We had a starter to share of taps - the fish in the jar was trevally & unfortunately there was a base to the jar. The pastry with cheese in is to die for with the accompaniments of tomato salsa & avocado dip. There was also a beef cigar each, which were delicious. For mains he had a trevally & prawn chimichanga- this was extremely tasty & thoroughly enjoyed!! I had the vegetarian cigars & they were divine. You don’t need meat when there are so many tasty flavours. We had to have the pina colada dessert as it is gluten & dairy free & never disappoints. A truly memorable meal, yet again. We will be back when next in the area.More
