I thought i would book a restaurant for when we arrived in Budapest near where we were staying due to not wanting to walk around for ages after a day of sightseeing, and going by the reviews i chose this place. I booked online and had a reply back in 24 hours, the email in near perfect English also acknowledged my... more

We had dinner at Alabardos in the nice surroundings of the St. Mattias church. Romantic vaults, lovely setting - but they all seemed a bit tired, the food was not more than OK, the sommelier suggested a vine at the wrong end of the pricelist. Spend the money elsewhere in Budapest! more

For dinner, we decided on Alabárdos - Országház utca 2, just a block from the hotel. It was certainly upscale & turned out well. The staff was a bit stiff & pretentious & yet they shake your hand when you leave. 6900 Ft for wine & similar for food. Typical high-end food sizes too. more

Enjoyed two delicious meals in Alabardos. Attentive service and mercifully free from Gypsy minstrels. Food is international with a a Hungarian twist and some modernised Hungarian classics. Very inventive presentation and a great wine list, from which ordering half bottles or glasses seems to be no problem. Pleasant decor of a 'medieval' style in an historic building. Fractional more expensive... more

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Budapest. We had such a disappointing time at Alabardos however, that I thought it necessary to inform any future visitors to avoid this restaurant if they don’t want to walk away feeling cheated! In terms of atmosphere, you walk in to be met with an authentic medieval and cosy feel, but... more

I'm going to buck the trend a bit with my review of the Alabardos. It had been recommended to me by a friend as a romantic place to take my girlfriend. I'm afraid that I found the atmosphere much too stuffy to be romantic and the food was a major disappointment for us both. The staff are certainly attentive, perhaps... more

A very upscale place. Small portions. You need more than 1 coarse. Great wine list. Reservations a must, even if not busy. They will seat you but not in main room. Staff attentive and polite. Be prepared to spend some money and you will enjoy the evening more. Menu a bit obscure, not good for selective eaters. more

I made this booking months ago and used the Via Michelin Restaurant locator, it shows all the places that have been awarded a place in the Red Guide so you know it is great. When we arrived in Budapest in the afternoon and decided that we wanted to change our reservation for 8:30PM instead of the 7PM reservation we already... more

We came upon Alabardos restaurant near Matthias Church up around Fisherman's Bastion by chance. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. There is a tasting menu available, as well as a la carte. It's a small, intimate room, about 10-12 tables, medieval style. The male staff is professional, attentive, disciplined, and also very friendly! The fresh bread, duck dishes,... more
