When we visited Apalachicola and asked where a good restaurant was, we were told Papa Joe's. When we visited St. Joe's and asked where a good restaurant was, we were again told Papa Joe's. We went there twice while we vacationed at St. George's. One can easily just pass by Papa Joe's because it's situated behind a big boat warehouse.... more

This is exactly the kind of place you want to find when you head for Apalachicola. A raw oyster bar with great local fresh seafood. The bar staff was sufficiently surly to attempt a little character for the place, but the cheery waitstaff overcame that. We had a mixed platter of fresh seafood and a dozen raw oysters. Ate here for lunch on a Saturday. It was crowded, with about half locals and half tourists. I enjoyed the fried grouper basket with hush puppies. On a tip from a St George Island resident, we tried this place. We should have gone here years ago. The food was wonderful -- keep in mind that this is Panhandle Florida where fried seafood is the local specialty, and when in Rome -- and our waitress was extremely accomodating and professional. Restaurant was hot, service was horrible and food wasn't that great. Not worth the time or money, low class people eat here! I'm not sure what is worse - this or the Blue Parrot on SGI! more
