Café des Epices is great, but the guys there told us about their new venture, Le Jardin, which is a hidden gem. Both are highly recommended.
We'd read a lot about this cafe and I've to admit, the first impression was that it look quite basic. However there's certainly a relaxed charm to it. The location is amazing, overlooking the Rehba Khedima, the spice market full of hustle bustle selling a melange of exotic stuff including pet chameleons! :) We ordered a chicken sandwich, and a... Had some drinks (soft, tea, coffee, excellent coffee by the way) at the big terrace in front of the cafe. With view of the lively square where people debate over the prices of their souvenirs-to-be and a comfortable water-vaporizer which cools the terrace we felt very relaxed.
The staff here are more interested in looking at European girls then serving. The food is at best basic. All of the pictures of the straw sun hats are from the terrace de epice cafe which is a million times better but it's tricky to find as it's in the souk tucked away....Go here. The food and staff at the... More
Absolutely overrated! They served old crpes, unchewable, and the tea and coffee took ages. We simply left and went back to the beautiful Caf litteraire 'Dar Cherifa' and loved it again.
A great place to stop for a rest from haggling, with a great view over the spice square. We sat on the terrace which has the potential to get very hot, but was OK in October. They also provide free sunhats to borrow, and spray water regularly as a form of low-tech air conditioning! We had crepes which were a... More
after the madness that is the souks. Great service, good sandwiches, lovely coffee and a lovely cooling spray! I loved this place and would certainly go back again for lunch.
After our first time here (2007) we came back and had a snack. Although we did not enjoy the terrace upstairs we still enjoyed sitting on the terrace observing the scenery on the small souk in front of the cafe. The staff is still speedy and friendly and the food is tasty and good value for money. Thanks guys!
Great place to stop and escape from the hustle and bustle of the souks for something to eat. Head to the roof for a view all around, and some comforting (though slightly too frequent) sprays of water to keep cool. Food is good: sandwiches - kofta sandwich a great call; salads and other simple foods, nothing spectacular but a good... More
