If you are looking for an excellent cafe/dining experience in Istanbul, one where you can also put a dent in that shopping list (speak to the hospitable owner/operator, Ibrahim, who sells a variety of handmade exotic rugs and lamps in the cafe and in his 2nd floor gallery), you have to visit the delightful Cafe Rumist in Sultanahmet. Located on... more

We ate a number of times at Rumist since we stayed at Hotel Empress Zoe across the street. Ibrahim Kandemir and his brother Ugur are the nicest and most gracious hosts. The service and food is really great. The whole grilled fish is spectacular. The outside cafe is very pretty with large sofas and tables. But what makes this place... more

A place near Blue Mosque and Aya Sofía, where you can eat real turkish food prepared and served with care. It´s more than a restaurant, because Ibrahim, the owner, is a talented artist, who expose his own-made carpets in the restaurant, creating a wonderful atmosphere. You can taste the food outside, in confortable sofas, and have a nice chat with... more

We enjoyed our first visit there immensely and enjoyed visiting with Ibraiham. We had tea, fabulous tomato soup and great calamari for a snack but the calamari was sort of skimpy for the price. We went back a second time for dinner and ordered the calamari again, but was disappointed this time - it just wasn't good and and the... more

Ibrahim, a talented and accomplished rug appraiser and expert, will tell you everything you would like to know about Istanbul. He is a gracious host. He understands the curious nature of US travels and enjoys answering questions. Wonderful coffee and juices. A great way to start each day in Istanbul or to revive yourself after a long day of sightseeing. more

We first found Cafe Rumist the first night in Istanbul. We were looking for a light meal and the man representing the restaurant working the street enticed us in. He was quite engagning and we needed to eat some place. Seated outside we met the owner, Ibrahim, who as it tuned out had a lot of knowlege about the USA... more

During our first visity to Istanbul we stumbled across this unique cafe -Cafe Rumist- the atmosphere was homey and natural. Good food, especially the "out of this world," Kunefe. Do not miss this unique experience in the midst of the hussle and bussle of a great city. I promise you will not regret a minute of it. Bon appetite. more

We ate at this delightful cafe owned by two brothers on the last day of a15 day trip through the Mediterranean and it was such a pleasant surprise. It was clean and inviting and we were welcomed by the owners who spoke very good English. The food was wonderful - we had the Washingtonian pizza and the Ottoman pizza and... more
